Tigers edge Braves in baseball

Bluffton baseball earned its third win in a row, defeating Bellmont 4-2 on the road Tuesday.

The Tigers are now 6-2 on the early season.

Of the five hits, Eli Garrett had the only multi-hit game and also drove in an RBI. AJ Streveler drove in a run with a double, and Nick Pastore scored after a double of his own.

Streveler got the win on the mound, going 2 2/3 innings in relief and allowing one run on three hits, striking out two.

Griffin Morgan allowed one run on one hit and struck out three, and Braxton Betancourt got the save with a perfect seventh inning while striking out two.

Bluffton will host Canterbury at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 19.

Norwell routs Bishop Luers in softball

Norwell’s win streak for its softball team continued to three in a row with a home 10-0 rout over Bishop Luers on Tuesday.

The Norwell Knights are now 5-2 on the season.

Jordan Markley continued her dominance at the plate with a two-for-two showing and scoring two runs. She hit a double in the game. Kaydence Clark drove in two runs on a base hit, as did Elle Misch as a pinch hitter.

Madyson Sonnigsen got the win on the mound, hurling four innings of scoreless softball, allowing just three hits, and striking out nine.

Kara Brown tossed an inning for no hits or runs, striking out one.

Norwell will host Adams Central at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 19.

Knights shutout Patriots in baseball

The Norwell baseball team shut out Jay County 7-0 at home Tuesday.

The Knights, after losing two of their last three games, are now 8-2 on the season.

Luke Graft led the offense with three hits, one going for a double but had no RBI. Curtis Ellis and Luke McBride had multi-hit games. Brody Bolyn went one-for-four, but the one was a three-run bomb, his second of the year.

Ellis got the win for Norwell, tossing a complete seven-inning shut out, allowing three hits, one walk, and striking out 12.

Norwell will be at Homestead starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 20.

Knights sweep Archers in girls varsity & JV tennis

The Norwell girls’ tennis team continued to roll through regular season play, winning 5-0 again on Tuesday over South Side.

The Knights are now 5-0 on the season, winning all of their games in a 5-0 sweep. The JV team also won 5-0, improving to 5-0 as well.

Tigers fall to Apaches in softball

The Bluffton softball team dropped to 2-5-1 on the season with a 10-5 loss to Wabash on Tuesday.

Lily King, Kayla Kiefer, Marly Drayer, and Averi Petty all had two-hit games on the day. Drayer had a triple and two RBIs, and Kiefer had a triple as well.

King got the loss pitching all seven innings, allowing 10 runs but five of them were earned.

Bluffton will be at South Adams for conference game No. 1 this season starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 20.

Knights fall at home to Leo in boys’ golf

The Norwell boys’ golf team dropped a Northeast 8 Conference match to Leo Tuesday.

The Lions shot a 157, while the Knights shot a 177.

Leading the way for Norwell was Derek Smith, who shot a 40, followed by Cooper Sloan (44), Chase Hulvey (46), Ashton Federspiel (47), and Ethan Ottinger (50).

Norwell also lost the junior varsity match, shooting a 188 compared to Leo’s 177.

Leading the Knights’ JV team was Bodie Zimmer with a 44, followed by Kaedyn Quintanilla (46), Luke Herrell (47), Cavin SMithley (51), Owen Wallis (55), and Josh Adam (57).

Norwell will be at the South Adams Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 22.

Tiger boys place second, girls third in track

Both Bluffton track teams hosted Jay County and Celina, OH, Tuesday.

Celina won the boys’ side with a team score of 73, Bluffton second with a score of 53.5, and Jay County third with 29.5.

Celina won the girls, too, with a team score of 95.5, Jay County second at 46.5, and Bluffton with 14.

Top-performers for the boys were:

• Sam and Jude Baumgartner, Levi Johns, and Tyler Godwin first in the 4x800m relay with a time of 8:48.5.

• Anthony Cruz, Ben Ramseyer, Hutch Craighead, and Khamel Moore first in the 4x100m relay with a time of 47.3.

• Andrew Hunt second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.2 and second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 44.10.

• Ramseyer second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.5

• Godwin first in the mile with a time of 4:47.6 and first in the 800m with a time of 2:10.9.

• Jude Baumgertner second in the 400m with a time of 54.5.

• Johnny Cruz second in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet 9.25 inches.

Top-performers for the girls were:

• Ava Troxel first in the long jump with jump of 15 feet seven inches and third in the 200m dash with a time of 29 seconds.

• Sophie Schwartz third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.4

• Maryn Schreiber third in the 400m with a time of 1:06.9.

Raider boys place second, girls third in track

The Southern Wells track teams hosted Adams Central and Heritage Tuesday.

Heritage swept both events, winning the boys with a team score of 99, Southern Wells second at 36, and Adams Central at 18.

In the girls, Heritage won with a score of 89, Adams Central 49, and Southern Wells 18.

Top-placers for the boys were:

• Potter Garrett, Andrew Aker, Joshua Bricker, and Rio Horner first in the 4×800 with a time of 9:24.47.

• Aidan Carroll, Aker, Jenkins, and Eli Elmore second in the 4×400 relay with a time of 4:10.7.

• Kane Jenkins second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.6 and second in the 300 IM with a time of 47.1.

• Garrett first in the 1600m with a time of 4:55.1, second in the 3200m with a time of 11:14, and first in the 800m with a time of 2:14.7.

Top-placers for the girls were:

• Sydney Alstoft second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.51.

• Brooke Tonner second in the high jump with a jump of four feet 10 inches.

Southern Wells will be at Daleville at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 20.

Knights rout Jets in junior varsity baseball

Norwell’s junior varsity baseball team was on a roll offensively at Adams Central Tuesday with a 13-3 victory.

The Knights put together nine hits, two of which were triples by Will Case and Gary Riley. Both had two hits in the game and four RBIs each.

Noah Turk got the win throwing five innings, allowing three unearned runs on three hits, and striking out nine.

Norwell will host Homestead starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 20.

Tigers fall to Patriots in junior varsity baseball

The Bluffton junior varsity baseball team had a tough defeat at Jay County 12-0 Tuesday.

The Tigers were no-hit, only mustering a walk by Trevor Smith.

Bluffton will be at Central Noble at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 19.
