The Wells County GIS database will soon include itemized property tax bills.

The commissioners unanimously agreed to use up to $1,000 to input property tax data into the software; the treasurer’s office will be responsible for formatting this information. The commissioners also agreed to include this in future GIS budgets.

Commissioner Blake Gerber stated the software has always allowed for the inclusion of this information but that it wasn’t being utilized. He stated its inclusion will allow for increased transparency about property taxes.

“It answers a lot of questions so people can figure it out themselves,” Gerber said.

Gerber said he expected this change to be live by April or May. GIS property data is accessible at beacon.schneidercorp.com.
