The Norwell show choirs opened their competition season Feb. 4 at the Edgewood High School Contest of Champions in Ellettsville, Ind., earning group and individual honors in the process.

Knight Sounds from Norwell Middle School earned 3rd runner-up in the Middle School Division. Eighth-grader r Sophie Gerber was named the Outstanding Performer for the group.

Norwell High School’s treble choir Knight Stars had a strong performance, being named 1st runner-up. Junior Emily Edmiston was named the Outstanding Performe and freshman Ella McIntosh was recognized with an award for the Best Solo in a Show for the division.

Knight Moves was named 1st runner-up in the Small Mixed Division, earning a spot in the finals. Senior Benjamin Stephens was named Outstanding Performer. Senior Marlo Evans was awarded Best Solo in a Show for the Small Mixed division, and was also named Grand Champion of the separate solo competition. He  was therefore chosen to perform at the beginning of the finals competition at the end of the day.

Entering the finals in fourth place, Knight Moves improved their show to advance a placement to 2nd runner-up overall.

The groups from Norwell High School will compete at both Carroll High School and DeKalb High School next Saturday, Feb. 11.
