Song-filled show based on theatrical musicals will be presented by CAC in April

A musical revue will be presented by the Creative Arts Theater (see sidebar at right) in an effort to bring musicals back to Wells county’s showcase program.

Joy Cash, who will be directing what will be known as “Creative Arts Sings,” says the idea is to showcase performers. “We want to show people the tremendous level of talent we have,” Cash said about the show.

Among the musicals presented by Wells Community Theater over the years have been “Hello Dolly” in 2015 (above, with Vicki Kibellus in the lead role) and “White Christmas” in 2014 (below, with Joe Welches as Bob Wallace). The show to be presented in April is an attempt to regenerate interest in musicals, which WCT — now to be known as Creative Arts Theater — traditionally presented in the spring and summer. In order to do that, she’s planned a show that will cover a variety of singing types — large groups, medium-sized groups, solos for males and females, plus duets, trios, and quartets.

“This is a variety-style show, there are wonderful opportunities for many people to shine, as opposed to only having four or five principals,” she said in an email to prospective performers.

The current show list is 27 songs, which can be viewed on the CAC’s website at shorturl.at/bBDKW

The songs date back to 1943, which is when “Oklahoma” (“Oh, What a Beautiful Morning”) first appeared on Broadway, to two songs from “The Greatest Showman,” which premiered in 2017.

Information on auditions, set for the evening of Friday, Feb. 10, and the morning of Saturday, Feb. 11, can be viewed at the above website. Shows will be presented Friday, April 21; Saturday, April 22; and Sunday, April 23 at the CAC’s auditorium at Life Community Church.
