Eleven community organizations, offering services to women and children in Wells County, presented their grant application requests Monday evening at LiGHT’s (Ladies Initiating Giving—An Honored Tradition) fall business meeting at the Wells County Public Library’s meeting room.
This year a total of $15,981 was available to be given away while a total of $27,177 was requested from the 11 groups. A representative from each group gave a two-minute presentation, telling about what their grant would be used for.
After the members’ votes were tabulated six groups were totally funded while a seventh was partially funded. Groups receiving their grant requests were:
• Adams Wells Crisis Center, Inc., $3,000
• Camp Watcha Wana-Do, $1,500
• Community Care of Northeast Indiana for replacement of PTAC heating and cooling units at Grace and Mercy, $3,000
• Community Harvest Food Bank, $2,500
• Helping Hands Pregnancy Resource Center, $2,500
• Park Community Church for FoodFight, $2,500
• Community Care of Northeast Indiana for Fresh Start rent and utility assistance, $981 (partially funded).
Others requesting grants were: Brickhouse Program of Loving Shepherd Ministries, $3,000; Caylor-Nickel Foundation YMCA, $1,127; Family Centered Services, $2,050; and Southern Wells Jr./Sr. High School, $3000.
Members of LiGHT’s steering committee hosted the fall business meeting and introduced the persons speaking.
