Norwell girls’ golf wins dual-meet against DeKalb
Following their Bi-VCounty Invitational win, the Lady Knights remained on the top end of the score sheet with a 169-187 victory over DeKalb at Timber Ridge Golf Course.
The medalist was DeKalb’sSophie Pfister, who shot a 35.
For Norwell, their leader was Anna Dodane, with a 38. FollowingDodane, Ellie Gatton shot a (42), followed by Emily Dodane finished with a (43), Emilyn Heaston (46), and Nevada Lenwell (50).
Norwell will travel to Huntington North in another dual-meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1.
Bluffton volleyball beats Marion 3-0
Both the Lady Tigers girl’s varsity and junior varsity teams swept through Marion at home.
The varsity team won 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, and 25-17). The stat leaders were Maryn Schrieber with 13 kills and one block, Emma Baumgartner with 14 assists, Haley Gibson with one block, Lauren Reiff with one block, and Marly Drayer with 15 digs and four aces.
The JV squad won their match 2-0 (25-9, 25-21). The stat leaders for the game were Konley Ault with nine kills and five digs, Lexi Grady with 11 assists, and Haddie Yergler with five aces.
Lady Raider golf outduels Wes-Del
Southern Wells girl’s golf team outlasted Wes Del 206-230 at home.
The medalist for the match was Kayleigh Jones and Grace Meeks, who both shot a 49. Following Jones and Meeks was Caroline Ripperger with a score of 53 and Jadyn Yencer at 55.
The Raiders will head down to Wabash Valley Golf Club at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept 1, to take on South Adams and Woodlan.
Bluffton tennis sweeps Manchester
The Tigers tennis team hosted Manchester for a 5-0 sweep.
The winners for Bluffton in singles were Keegan Schwartz over Payton Jones 6-1, 6-2. Drew Pressler against Josh Steely 6-0, 6-0. Anthony Hartman over Connor Trump 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, Vanderkolk’s Tigers won with Preston Daughtery and Blake Moser 6-3, 6-4 against Cole Henderson and Sammy Lambert. Logan Reifsteck and Max Worth defeated AJ Weaver and Owen Harshman 6-4, 6-0.
In junior varsity, Manchester got the best in the two matches in singles, with Milo Hupp beating Grant Reifsteck 8-1 and Hupp over Braden Lemler 8-6.
Bluffton will host Fort Wayne Wayne at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 31.
South Adams inches past Bluffton girls’ golf
Bluffton’s girl’s golf team just missed the mark against South Adams by just one stroke, 204-205.
The medalist of the match was Lily King, who shot a 42. followed by Emma Schwartz (47), and tying at 58 were Kennedy Nash and Tressa Renner.
The Lady Tigers will be at Heritage at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept 1.
Lady Knights soccer loses tight match at Bellmont
The The Norwell girl’s soccer team took the road trip to Decatur to take on Bellmont. The final score ended up being 3-2 in favor of the hosting Braves.
Bellmont got off to a 2-0 start in the first half. Right before halftime, Grace Mann put one through to make it 2-1.
Makenzie Fuess scored to tie the game in the second half, which ended 2-2 before the overtime period.
In the first overtime, neither team could find the back of the net.
But in the second overtime, Bellmont picked up a goal to win 3-2.
Norwell will be back on the field at home against Jay County with JV starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept 1, withh the varsity will follow.
Norwell boys’ soccer shutout by Braves
The Norwell boys’ soccer team hosted Bellmont, falling 2-0. The Brave’s two goals came from Andrew James in the first half.
Noah Fromm for Norwell made seven saves, while Bellmont’s DJ Kitson made five saves.
Southern Wells boys XC finishes fourth at Bi-County Conditioner
The Raiders boys and girls cross country teams traveled up to Bluffton for the Bi-County Conditioner.
The boys team finished fourth, while the girls team had four runners, not enough to compete with a finishing time.
The boys team finished with a time of 1:50:56.0, which beat out fifth place Adams Central by less than four minutes.
The only names that were relased in the pairings were runners in the top-10.
The parings for Southern Wells were Joshua Bricker and Potter Garrett who finished fifth overall with a time of 35:48.4. Finishing in 10th was Andrew Aker and Jarin Frauhiger at 37:23.8.
Southern Wells will run next at the Wildcat Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept 10.
Knights tennis swept by Carroll
It was a rough going for the Norwell tennis team as they hosted Carroll and lost 4-1.
Starting with singles, the Chargers Griffin Martin defeated Ethan Ottinger 6-0, 6-0. Brian Mason beat Grant Mishler 6-3, 6-3. Matt Kosmik won over Bodie Zimmer 6-4, 6-0.
In doubles, Carrols Will Jamison and Andrew Jamison beat Winston Frauhiger and Brason Chaney 6-0, 6-1. The lone win for Norwell came from Jaden Payne and Jake Hoover over Nick Drummer and San Nictert 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.
In junior varsity, Carroll won in a close 4-3 match.
There were three singles matches starting with Caroll’s Sam Dinius over Eddie Archbold 8-6 and George Kinder over Ethan Williamston 8-1. Norwell’s Gavin Reynolds beat Nick Sickle 8-5.
There were four doubles matches. The Chargers won with Ethan Ratliffe and Romeo Macias against James Simmerman and Brayden Wallace 6-1. Luke Williams and Aidan Trier beat Alex Baker and Christian Weling 6-0. For the Knights, Owen Cupp and Ignacio Albrecht defeated Will Distelrath and Ethan Ratliffe 8-0.
Norwell will host again at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept 1, against Columbia City.
Green Valley Senior Golf
Steve Folk had the lowest gross at 37, and Tom Grezych had the low net at 31 in the Tuesday Senior Golf League at Green Valley Golf Course.
Bruce Warner was closest to pin, and Tom Reifsteck had the longest putt.
The winning team was Dave Willits, Lou Schroeder, Greg Castilow, and Don Pettit.
