Pam Tuttle and Mara Jo Williams represented Bluffton’s Epsilon Zeta Chapter of the Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority at the organization’s 97th annual meeting in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
“Friendship Across the Borders” was the theme of the convention. It was the first time Canadian sisters were able to attend since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among the highlights:
• The sorority donated $10,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association, which is the international project for 2022-23. Each chapter brought in school supplies for the local province.
• New international officers were chosen.
• The Book Ends program was created this past year by Lou Young and Judy Maxwell of Bluffton. There are 94 members in this group and they meet monthly via Zoom to discuss a book that they are reading as a group.
• The SPG Quilt Group has 27 members. The group was started by Cindy Stath. They each made a quilt square and Laura Green put the quilt together. Chances were sold for the quilt, with the proceeds being donated to the Alzheimer’s Association. Another group just getting started is Sisters in the Kitchen.
• The international sorority donated $5,000 to the Warrior Foundation from the Little Friends Health Fund.
• Awards were given to chapters that had initiated new members during the previous year. There were 49 members initiated into the international sorority during the past year.
The 2023 international convention will be held in Greenville, S.C., and the 2024 conventional will be held in Portland, Maine. The 2025 convention will be hosted by Lambda Province in Indianapolis.
