Friday, 3:27 p.m., Hardees, 211 N. Main St. Report of a man in the lobby of the restaurant begging for money. Officers responded and told the man to leave, which he did without incident.
Friday, 4:31 p.m., apartment at Pine Grove. Caller reported a neighbor was threatening the caller and the caller’s brother. Officers responded. Information taken for a report.
Friday, 6:56 p.m., Walmart Supercenter. Officer requested to issue a trespass warning to a male customer.
Friday, 7:51 p.m., Wells County Public Library, 200 W. Washington St. Caller reported theft of son’s bicycle from the library.
Friday, 10:10 p.m., 204 W. Market St. Report of an intoxicated man hanging out on a bench for the past three to four days. It was reportedly the same person who had been asked earlier in the day to leave Hardees. Officer responded and warned the man for disorderly conduct after he reportedly made verbal threats to the caller.
Friday, 10:55 p.m., River Road at Orchard Ridge pull-off on the Rivergreenway. Officer located the vehicle. It was some man talking on his cellphone. He was leaving.
Friday, 10:57 p.m., KOA Campground. Officers requested for some campers being “loud and rowdy.”
Friday, 11:15 p.m., River Road at Stogdill Road. Report of four men dressed all in black standing in the road waving their arms. Officer responded but did not see anyone matching the description.
Saturday, 10:02 a.m., Ellie Grace, 110 N. Main St. Someone lying on the sidewalk in front of the business’ front door. Officer checked it out but whoever it was was gone.
Saturday, 11:21 a.m., Lakeview Court resident reported being scammed out of Social Security number from a caller claiming to be from Medicare.
Saturday, 2:02 p.m., Peyton’s Northern, 1111 S. Adams St. Report of an unresponsive truck driver at the warehouse. Officers, Bluffton Fire Department first responders and Wells County EMS dispatched. Wells County Coroner contacted.
Saturday, 3:06 p.m., 1200 block of Sunnyglenn Court. Report of a suspicious vehicle parked in front of the caller’s mailbox. Officer responded. It was a roofer using a drone to check out a prospective client’s roof.
Saturday, 3:50 p.m., Bluffton Regional Medical Center South Campus, 1100 S. Main St. (former Wells Community Hospital). Report of a man lying on the front yard of the building covered by a blanket.
Saturday, 5:35 p.m., mobile home in the Walnut Hills Estates mobile home park, 80 Sunset Drive. Deputy served a warrant for arrest on Christopher Robert Daugherty, 30, Bluffton, on 14 counts of theft, all Class A misdemeanors. Bond set at $21,000.
Saturday, 8:48 p.m., Walmart Supercenter, 2100 N. Main St. Report of a man passed out at the wheel of a vehicle. Officers responded. The man reportedly appeared to be high, however a check by the K-9 officer did not alert for any illegal substances in the vehicle. Both the driver and his passenger were advised to get a valid driver to drive them home.
Saturday, 11:47 p.m., residence in the 900 block of West Market St. Report of an unwanted man at the residence. Officers responded and gave the man a courtesy transport away from the residence.
Sunday, 12:40 a.m., KOA Campground, 1625 W. Lancaster St. Report of a loud verbal altercation between several people. Officers responded but the yellers had left.
Sunday, 11:04 a.m., residence in the 400 block of East Cherry Street. Someone put a nail in one of the tire’s of the caller’s vehicle.
Sunday, 1:36 p.m., 2100 block of North Main Street. Broken glass all over the road. Indiana Department of Transportation contacted.
Sunday, 1:46 p.m., Indiana Technical Installations, 2220 N. Main St. Burglar alarm. Officers responded. No sign of foul play found.
Sunday, 3:04 p.m., Bluffton Regional Medical Center, 303 S. Main St. Officers requested to remove an unruly person from the emergency room.
Sunday, 3:53 a.m., Hardee’s restaurant, 211 N. Main St. Officers requested for a suspicious man inside the lobby of the restaurant. Turned out to be the man earlier removed from Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Sunday, 5:29 p.m., residence in the 500 block of South Daugherty Street. Caller advised there was someone trespassing on his property and he fired a gun at the tire of the trespasser’s vehicle, who then left. Information taken for a report.
Sunday, 8:30 p.m., residence in the 100 block of West Townley Street. Officers requested to remove an unwanted man from the residence. Officers responded. Matthew A. Williams, 47, Martinsville, was arrested on a warrant from another county.
Monday, 12:33 a.m., 600 block of North Main Street. Officer pulled over a vehicle and arrested the driver, William Alden West, 29, Bluffton, on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction for the same or a similar offense, a Level 6 felony; possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor; operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in his body, a Class C misdemeanor. Bond set at $6,000.
Monday, 6:28 a.m., Stag Bar, 205 W. Market St. Burglar alarm. Officers responded. Alarm malfunctioned.
Monday, 8:34 a.m., 1500 block of Greenfield Lane. Report of a suspicious vehicle flashing its lights on and off and banging on the side of the caller’s house.
Monday, 8:38 a.m., Peyton’s Northern warehouse, 1111 S. Adams St.. Report of two employees abusing drugs in the parking lot. Officer responded but did not see anyone matching the description.

Friday, 8:40 a.m., Ind. 1 between 700N and 800N. Sheriff’s deputy assisted a teenage motorist in changing a tire.
Friday, 2:01 p.m., 600E north of Tocsin. Horse running down the road. Caller had chased it off the road.
Friday, 3:56 p.m., Ind. 1 north of 350N. Sheriff’s deputy reported that while driving north on Main Street, he noticed a 2017 Ford Escape in front of him travel left of center. He turned on the emergency lights of his patrol vehicle, but the Escape continued northbound. He then activated the siren of his patrol vehicle but the Escape still did not stop. Finally, after witnessing he Escape cross the center line several times and nearly causing a head-on collision with oncoming vehicles, the Escape pulled over north of 350N. The deputy noted in his report that the 76-year-old female driver seemed confused and appeared to be suffering from some medical condition, but was not impaired on any substances. The deputy gave the woman a courtesy drive home and her husband a courtesy drive back to where her car was parked so he could take her to the doctor.
Friday, 8:50 p.m., 450E near 800N. Loose horse in the roadway. Deputy assisted the horse’s owner in rounding up the animal.
Saturday, 1:06 a.m., residence on 900S east of 200E. Caller reported someone banging on her front door and trying to get in. Sheriff’s deputies responded. Turned out to be the cousins of the caller playing a prank on her.
Saturday, 1:21 a.m., Hoosier Highway at 300S. Someone dumped trash in the road.
Saturday, 4:56 p.m., Ind. 1 at 350S. While driving his patrol vehicle north on Main Street, a sheriff’s deputy spotted an oncoming motorcycle that matched the description of a motorcycle that had reportedly fled from the deputy on Aug. 1. The helmeted rider of the motorcycle turned his head around and looked at the deputy and then took off southbound at a high rate of speed. The deputy turned his patrol vehicle around and pursued the motorcycle. The rider reportedly wove the motorcycle through traffic in an attempt to put distance and other vehicles between himself and the deputy and several times reportedly drove into oncoming traffic. The rider reportedly ran the red light at Main and Wabash streets and continued southbound before the deputy finally lost sight of him on the south side of Bluffton.
Sunday, 9:27 a.m., while patrolling south on Ind. 1 near 500N, a sheriff’s deputy clocked an oncoming 2016 Jeep at 71 mph-55 zone, turned around, and pulled it over at U.S. 224. The driver, identified as Lori Rea Irwin, 44, Decatur, reportedly did not have her license in her possession and was out on bond on a pending case in Adams County wherein she had been charged with unlawful possession of a hypodermic syringe, a Level 6 felony; possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor; and battery, a Class B misdemeanor. The deputy asked Irwin if she had smoked marijuana recently and she allegedly admitted to having smoked marijuana around 10 p.m. the previous night. The deputy noted in his report to the court that Irwin failed field sobriety tests and a SoToxa oral fluid test allegedly showed the presence of cannabis and cocaine in her system. She was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor; operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in her body, a Class C misdemeanor; and speeding, a Class C infraction. Bond was set at $1,500.
Sunday, 1:23 p.m., Liberty Center Fire Department, 2600S-300W. Someone had been spinning a vehicle in circles in the department’s gravel parking lot.
Sunday, 2:41 p.m., residence on 1100N west of 500W. Dirt bike stolen.
Monday, 8:55 a.m., residence on 1050N east of Ind. 1. Caller reported his mailbox had been blown up sometime during the night.
Ossian:
Saturday, 8:26 p.m., residence in the 100 block of South Melching Drive. Sheriff’s deputy served warrants for arrest on Joseph Lee Davis, 47, of that address on charges of forgery, a Level 6 felony, and theft, a Class A misdemeanor. Bond set $40,000. Also arrested was Melissa Ann Davis, 32, of that address, on two counts of theft, both Level 6 felonies. Bond set at $10,000.

Saturday, 9:19 a.m., 1200 W. Cherry St. Melvin Coverstone, 77, Bluffton, backed a 2008 GMC Sierra pickup truck, registered to Ellenberger Bros., 130 W. Market St., out of his driveway into the parking lot across the way at 1200 W. Cherry St. and backed into a parked 2011 Honda Fit, the registered owner of which was not listed on the accident report. Coverstone explained that he usually backs out of his driveway like that and there is usually no one parked in the lot. Damage exceeded $1,000.

Friday, 3:39 p.m., Ind. 1 north of U.S. 224. Brianna Weir, 30, Wabash, was driving north on Ind. 1 in a 2014 Ford Fusion when she slowed to make a left turn into a driveway. Rose Taylor, 72, Ossian, was coming up behind in a 2014 Chevrolet Impala and realized too late that Weir had slowed to turn. She tried passing on the left to avoid a collision just as Weir was making her turn. Damage exceeded $10,000.
Sunday, 6:16 a.m., Ind. 218 west of 600W. Ashton R. Skeens, 28, rural Van Buren, hit a deer 2022 Hyundai Tucson. Damage to the vehicle exceeded $1,000.

Sunday, 7:17 p.m., 1200N east of Ind. 1. Report of a child struck by a vehicle driven by a juvenile moving at a high rate of speed. The child reportedly suffered a gash to the head. Wells County EMS and Ossian Fire Department first responders dispatched to the scene. No further details were available.
Monday, 9:48 a.m., 705 Willowbrook Trail residence of Ryan and Rebekah Shaffer. Carbon monoxide detector alarm. Bluffton Fire Department dispatched.
