The Wells County Commissioners will move forward with a bridge project on 800E and 900S.

Four bids were received for the Community Crossings Matching Grant funded project. The low bidder was Jutte Excavating out of Fort Recovery, Ohio, at $527,251.78. That came in under the estimated cost on the project application to the state of $625,150.

“We are very fortunate with this price as I have seen bids come in on work high across the board so much that (the Indiana Department of Transportation) has had to regularly reject and rebid various projects,” County Engineer Nate Rumschlag wrote in his report.

He said a similar project three years ago came in under $300,000.

“That is not a sustainable growth trend,” Rumschlag said on the cost inflation.

Rumschlag also said he would be in contact with Adams County regarding a financial match for the project, and he should have that amount later this month.

The commissioners approved issuing a notice of intent to award the project to Jutte.
