The Town of Markle’s next financial institution has been chosen.
It was announced in January 2021 that First Merchants Bank was closing its Markle branch that April, and town officials have used the past year to evaluate their options.
On Wednesday, Clerk-Treasurer Stephenie Hensley said a decision has been made and she wanted the town council’s support in making the move.
“(Utility Clerk) Cheryl Hardin and I met with Danielle Shaw from Bippus State Bank on Monday,” Hensley wrote in her report to the council. “We are prepared to move the town accounts to Bippus.”
The change to the Huntington County bank would allow her to stop daily trips out of Markle to make deposits because BSB will provide the town a check scanner at no cost, Hensley said.
“We are looking forward to a more personal relationship with a bank than what we currently have,” she added. “Bippus State Bank felt like the right choice after meeting with numerous institutions.”
Hensley requested the switch be noted for the town’s official record. Vice President Nick Lund said that decision is one that the clerk-treasurer should make so the council will trust her to make the best choice for the town.
“I think it’s a good move,” President Matthew Doss said.
