The Norwell Knights came up with a 12-7 home victory over Huntington North in Thursday baseball action.
The Knights (13-9) used a six-run third inning to take a 9-4 lead. The Vikings threatened in the next two innings with three runs to cut their deficit to two runs, but the Knights responded in the bottom of the sixth with two runs and added one more for insurance in the sixth to secure the victory.
Norwell’s bats were hot, totalling 15 hits. Cale Mallery was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs. Brody Bolyn went 3-for-4 and had two RBIs. Drew Graft went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs.
Trey Bodenheimer and Josiah Leidig each went 2-for-4. Bodenheimer hit a double and drove in two runs, and Leidig added a run.
Bolyn got the win on the mound for the Knights. He started and pitched six innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits while striking out five and walking one. Graham Gaier came in for an inning in relief and allowed no hits or runs to go with one strikeout.
On Thursday, the Knights fell 5-4 to the visiting Snider Panthers. With the score tied 3-3 in the sixth, Snider scored a run to gain the lead. The Panthers added one more in the seventh, which put the Knights down two going into the bottom of the seventh.
Norwell managed one run, but could not get another to extend the game.
Norwell had eight hits at the plate, led by Leidig’s 2-for-4 performance. He also drove in two runs.
Lane Lewis pitched all seven innings for Norwell and took the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits while striking out seven and walking one.
Norwell will take on Concordia on the road on Saturday for its next game.
