Tiger baseball beats Patriots
Bluffton’s baseball team defeated Jay County 8-6 in a home game on Wednesday.
Bluffton (10-8) was led by Kyler Rolston at the plate and on the mound. Rolston led the Tigers with three hits and drove in two runs while also pitching six innings on the mound and striking out five.
Brody Lewis had two RBIs for the Tigers at the plate as well.
Bluffton will take on Garrett on the road when it returns to action on Saturday.
Norwell tennis tops Bulldogs
Norwell’s tennis team traveled to New Haven on Wednesday and left with a 5-0 victory over the Bulldogs.
Aubreyan Heyerly defeated Kendall Rowland 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. McKenna McNabb defeated Malee Snodgrass 6-0, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. Addy Heyerly defeated E’Lia Colin 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles.
Annabelle Johnson and Mackinzie Toliver defeated Bekah Snodgrass and Amy Clark 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles. Jordyn Xayyachack and Sofia Fernandez defeated Aaliyah Casiano and Emily Gordillo 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 doubles.
Norwell’s record improved to 13-1 with the win.
The Lady Knights won the JV match 4-0. Brooklynn Pine won No. 1 singles 6-0. Gracie Rinkenberger won No. 2 singles 6-0. Macy Felger and Becky Sicchiero won No. 1 doubles 6-0. Ciera Hiester and Lisa Beckman won No. 2 doubles 6-0.
Norwell will host Huntington North on Thursday for its next match.
Bluffton tennis gets beat by JC
Bluffton’s girls’ tennis team was defeated 4-1 at Jay County on Wednesday.
The Lady Tigers (4-8) scored their only point in No. 1 singles where Monroe Heller defeated Grace Brewster 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.
Jay County’s Lilly Hedges defeated Emma Baumgartner 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 in No. 2 singles. Brenna Haines defeated Gretchen Crist 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles. Madison Dirksen and Holly Hemelgarn defeated Madi Fenstermaker and Emily Mann 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles. Kaylee Zimmerman and Melana Zimmerman defeated Olivia Funk and Cadence Engle 6-4, 6-4 in No. 2 doubles.
Jay County won the JV match 6-1.
Alexis Grover scored Bluffton’s only JV point with a 10-8 win in No. 1 singles.
Bluffton will take the court again on Thursday on the road against Carroll.
Tiger golf loses to Northfield
Bluffton’s boys’ golf team was just barely edged out by Northfield on Wednesday, losing the home match at Timber Ridge Golf Course 171-172.
Keegan Schwartz shot a 38 for the Tigers to finish as the co-medalist with Northfield’s Tyson Baer, who also shot a 38.
Following Schwartz on Bluffton were Ephraim Frauhiger at 39, Connor Klopfenstein at 47, Kade Abbett at 48, and Alec Reiff at 52.
Bluffton’s JV played an intra-squad match. Anthony Hartman shot a 52 for the best individual score. He was followed by Kyler Potter at 59, Logan Shearrer at 61, Chase Gibson at 62, Ethan Hunt at 63, Hudson Werich at 66, and Logan Reifsteck at 68.
Bluffton will tee off again on Monday when it hosts South Adams.
Lady Tiger softball falls to Patriots
Bluffton’s softball team was beaten by Jay County 13-2 in a home game on Wednesday.
Bluffton (2-12) scored a run in the first inning and one more in the fifth.
Meanwhile, Jay County scored all the runs it needed to in the first inning with five. The visitors added two more runs in the second, four in the third, and one each in the fourth and fifth innings to win by the 10-run rule.
Tyrah Shaw had two hits for the Lady Tigers, while Madison Smith and Kaitlyn Tungate each added a hit as well. Averi Petty took the loss on the mound. She started and allowed four earned runs.
Bluffton will host Bellmont in its next matchup on Thursday.
NHS JV baseball gets win over Concordia
Norwell’s JV baseball team won 13-3 over Concordia.
Norwell had 13 hits at the plate. Cooper Sloan had three of them to go with two RBIs. Cohen Bailey and Logan Cotton each had two hits and two RBIs.
On the mound, Noah Turk started and pitched 2 1/3 innings. He allowed two earned runs and got one strikeout.
Ryne Thornton came in relief for the final 3 2/3 innings and allowed no earned runs while striking out six.
Norwell JV softball wins against Vikings
Norwell’s JV baseball team topped Huntington North 16-6.
The Lady Knights got off to a hot start with nine runs in the first inning. They added two each in the third and fourth innings and scored three more in the fourth to win by the 10-run rule in five innings.
Norwell had 11 hits at the plate, with Kaydance Clark, Haley Green, and Nevada Lenwell each getting two. Clark also drove in a team-high five runs.
Addison Keller was the winning pitcher, allowing six runs on six hits in three innings while walking six.
Green came in relief for the final two innings of the game and allowed no runs on two hits to go with two strikeouts.
Norwell baseball team loses to DeKalb
Norwell’s baseball team lost 8-1 to DeKalb on Tuesday.
The Knights (12-8) struggled at the plate against Barons pitcher Ethan Jordan, managing just three hits. Jordan also struck out five and walked just two.
Lleyton Bailey and Kline Neuenschwander hit back-to-back doubles in the second to produce Norwell’s only run of the game.
DeKalb scored its first three runs in the third and added its final five in the fifth.
Cade Shelton suffered the loss for Norwell on the mound. He started and allowed four runs off two hits in four innings of work while walking five and striking out four.
Lane Lewis came in relief for an inning and allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits to go with a strikeout and a walk.
Graham Gaier pitched the final inning and allowed no hits or runs and struck out two.
The Knights host Huntington North on Thursday for their next game.
