NHS baseball tops East Noble
Norwell’s baseball team defeated East Noble 11-2 in Monday’s home game.
Lleyton Bailey pitched a complete game for Norwell (12-7) on the mound, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out seven and walking one.
The Knights provided Bailey with plenty of run support at the plate, totalling 10 hits as a team. Luke Graft had three hits with a triple and double, three RBIs, and one run. Drew Graft had two hits with a home run, three RBIs, and three runs.
The Knights scored one run each in the first and second innings, followed by two in the third. They enjoyed their best inning in the fourth with five runs and added two more in the fifth.
Norwell’s next game will be at DeKalb on Tuesday.
Norwell softball defeats DeKalb
Norwell’s softball team had its way with DeKalb, winning Monday’s home game 17-5.
After a three-run first inning, Norwell (10-5) put up nine more runs in the second and five more in the third. The Knights were scoreless in the fourth, but their effort in the first three innings was enough to win the game by the 10-run rule in five innings.
Norwell had 14 hits at the plate, led by Brielle Nunley’s bat. She went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double, seven RBIs, and three runs.
Ryland Graft and Kirtlynn Lemler each had two hits, including one home run each. Hannah Troyer and Allyson Burtron also had multiple hits for the Knights.
Sami Lemler got the win on the mound, allowing one earned run on four hits in five innings while striking out three and walking two.
Norwell’s next game will be against Bishop Dwenger at World Baseball Academy on Tuesday.
NHS girls’ tennis beats East Noble
Norwell’s girls’ tennis team defeated East Noble 4-1 in a match on Monday.
The only point Norwell (11-1) did not get was in No. 2 singles, where Bree Walmsley defeated McKenna McNabb 7-5, 6-1.
Aubreyan Heyerly defeated Kyndal Mynhier 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 singles. Addy Heyerly defeated Kya Mosley 6-1, 6-3 in No. 3 singles.
Annabelle Johnson and Mackinzie Toliver defeated Sadie Potts and Ella Edwards 6-2, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles. Jordyn Xayyachack and Sofia Fernandez defeated Maria Bona and Breanna Arnold 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles.
Norwell won the JV match 8-1 as well.
Hayden Double, Brooklynn Pine, Gracie Rinkenberger, and Ella Krug got wins in singles play. Macy Felger and Becky Sicchiero, Ciera Hiester and Lisa Beckman, Emma Roembke and Emma Batdorff, and Renee Fraze and Taylor Werling got wins in doubles play.
Norwell’s next match will be on Tuesday at home against DeKalb.
Raiders baseball wins at Daleville
Southern Wells’ baseball team traveled to Daleville on Monday and left with a 7-4 victory.
With the score tied 2-2 after four innings, the Raiders (3-9) took the lead in the fifth with two runs. They added three more in the sixth to lead 7-2. Daleville scored its final two runs in the sixth and was unable to make a comeback.
Southern Wells had nine hits at the plate. Branson Rheinhart had two hits with a double and three runs scored. Bryar Gearheart had two hits and scored two runs. Evan Reynolds hit a double and drove in four runs.
Owen Vickrey was the winning pitcher, throwing 5 2/3 innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits while striking out six and walking three.
The Raiders return to the field on Tuesday at Jay County.
BHS softball roughed up at Adams Central
Bluffton’s softball team was defeated 22-1 at Adams Central on Monday.
The Lady Tigers (2-10) scored their lone run in the fourth inning. Meanwhile, the Lady Jets already had 12 at that point and exploded for 10 more in the bottom of the fourth. The Jets went on to win early by the 10-run rule in five innings.
Tressa Renner, Kayla Kiefer, and Claire Craighead had the Tigers’ only hits of the game.
Bluffton’s next game will be at home on Tuesday against Heritage.
