Two Northern Wells Community Schools students — Bryce Bowman of Norwell High School and Kayden Scheibelhut of Norwell Middle School — are members of an area robotics team that win a district championship recently.
The Huntington County 4-H Robotics Team 1501 T.H.R.U.S.T., which includes Bowman and Scheibelhut — and Team 4982 Olympus Robotics from Homestead High School teamed up to win the FIRST Robotics Tippecanoe District competition, along with their alliance captain team 7457 suPURDUEper Robotics out of Purdue Polytechnic High School. It was the eighth district win for Huntington Team 1501.
The teams advanced to the state championship April 15 and 16 where they will compete for a spot in the world championships in Houston, Texas, starting April 20.
This year’s competition involved designing robots to collect balls and shoot them into a goal more than eight feet tall. The robot must also climb rungs from 4 feet to 7 1/2 feet high.
Thirty-nine teams competed at the Tippecanoe event in 78 round-robin style matches.
