Dennis Morrison was recognized as Legionnaire of the Year by Post 111 Saturday.

Post Commander Ron Marshall said Morrison was instrumental in getting the bids for the handicap accessible ramp installation project on Washington Street, and he helps out in a variety of ways at the post home.

After the facility’s furnace failed last week, Morrison has taken the lead on determining what the post needs.

“He’s a valuable member here,” Marshall said, “and all-around good guy.”

Many others were recognized by the Sons of the American Legion, the Legion Auxiliary and Post 111 during Saturday’s dinner.

SAL member Nick Huffman was recognized for his contributions to the organization, and the SAL donated $5,000 to Post Commander Ron Marshall for the heating and cooling system replacement.

Those honored for 50 years of continuous membership of Post 111 were Samuel Aeschliman II, Jerry Brickley, Clarence Cottrell Jr., William Deihl, Monte Fisher, Larry Foreman, David Gerber, Leonard Graft, Gary Markley, Gary Poulson, Harry Riggs and Mark Sprunger.

Membership awards for 50 years to the auxiliary went to Jaine Murry and Lisa Pett.
