This weekend’s weather sure is different from what it was last weekend. A week ago, a dozen of us were kayaking the Wabash River, and today I’ll be staying inside volunteering at the Brr Fest, which seems fitting for the temperatures we are having.
Theater Thursday — If you enjoy movies, stop by the Wells County Public Library next Thursday, March 17, where we will be showing the film “Emma” (PG). The movie will be shown at 10 a.m. and includes complimentary snacks. This is a year-round event on the third Thursday of every month.
Tree crews will be on the Rivergreenway during the upcoming weeks to remove dead and low-hanging branches when the weather permits. They will also clear out any dead and rotting trees. If you happen to be walking by as they are working, give them plenty of space.
The Parks Department will be purchasing new trees during the tree planting program. If you or your organization would like to buy a tree for the parks, they are $37 each and will arrive in a 5-gallon bucket. For more information on donating, call 824-6069 by March 17.
We are currently working on our Easter Egg Hunt preparations, and we are seeking volunteers to bring their animals (bunnies, ducks, baby chicks, lambs, goats, kittens, guinea pigs, baby cows, or any kid-friendly animals) for kids to see and pet before the event on Thursday, April 14. Please let us know if you have time to delight the children of our community with your animals from 5 to 6:30 p.m. by calling 824-6069 or emailing us at events@blufftonindiana.gov
Speaking of wonderful volunteers, we would like to thank our friends at Bi-County Services for helping stuff more than 4,000 eggs! This is a huge undertaking, and we are so thankful for their help both before and during the event when they hide them.
The Easter Egg Hunt will have animals to pet starting at 5 p.m. at Roush Park. The hunt will be located in the baseball fields based on age groups starting promptly at 5:30 p.m., followed by our Dog Bone Hunt at 5:45 p.m. (by the basketball courts). The sensory-friendly Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Lions Park starting at 6:30 p.m. (you must pre-register for the sensory-friendly Easter Egg Hunt by calling 824-6069 or emailing events@blufftonindiana.gov). Don’t forget to bring an Easter basket or bag to collect your Easter eggs for the hunts.
Next week is the last week for Open Gym. The supervised gym time comes to a close on March 17 before spring break. Enjoy the outdoor courts this summer and plan to join us again in November.
Lucky the Leprechaun has caused all kinds of mischief in our parks, but fortunately, Rozlynn and Landen were quick to find him before he got into too much trouble. Check back daily to the Bluffton Parks Department Facebook page to see when Lucky will again be up to no good.
Make sure you start putting cake ingredients on your shopping lists for the upcoming Cake Wars (Home Edition). This fun challenge is for all ages to get creative with either a cake or cupcakes made between March 14 and March 30. Send your photos to events@blufftonindiana.gov along with your name, age, and description of your creation by March 30. We will then post pictures on the Bluffton Parks Department Facebook page from March 31 through April 6, and whichever image has the most votes (likes) will receive a prize.
Have a great week!
