INCIDENTS
City:
Monday, 4:06 p.m., caller reported witnessing a man strike a woman in the face. The two then got into a Nissna Altima and the vehicle headed south on Main Street. A Bluffton police officer pulled over a vehicle matching the description in the 700 block of North Main Street. Austin Caleb Tate, 30, Bluffton, was charged with domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony; possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor; and driving while suspended, a Class A infraction. Bond set at $26,000.
Monday, 4:21 p.m., Praxis, 1529 W. Lancaster St. Officers and sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a belligerent patient who had been discharged but was now refusing to leave the facility. The man eventually agreed to leave and was transported by an officer to the Wabash Street Pak-A-Sak to wait for a person coming up from Indianapolis to pick him up. No one showed so a Bluffton police officer transported the man back to Indianapolis.
Tuesday, 8:11 p.m., residence in the 1100 block of West South Street. Officers responded to a report of an unruly teenage female.
Tuesday, 11:19 a.m., residence in the 200 block of North Bond Street. Caller reported a Central Transport semi drove through her yard, damaging the yard.

Tuesday, 1:56 a.m., residence on Ind. 1 north of 500N. Deputies and Ossian and Markle police officers responded to the residence on a report of a physical altercation between a man and a woman. Reportedly no one at the residence was cooperative with the questioning of law enforcement. The parties were separated and no one was arrested.
Tuesday, 6:35 a.m., 900S east of 400E. American Electric Power line wire down across the road. Power company contacted and the power line was removed from the road at 8:01 a.m.
Tuesday, 9:04 a.m., residence on Ind. 124 west of 100W. Semi turned around in the driveway of the residence and in the process drove over a sign that had been posted stating “No semi turnarounds” and a large decorative rock which apparently became wedged under the wheels of the trailer. An investigating deputy managed to track a long scrape mark left by the rocks as the semi headed back east on Ind. 124, but the gradually the scrape mark became less and less noticeable and after about a mile, it was no longer visible.
Ossian:
Monday, 6:51 p.m., 300 block of South Jefferson Street. Report of gunshots. Ossian police officer checked the area and discovered people setting off firecrackers. They were done with the activity for the evening.
ACCIDENTS
City:
Monday, 12:39 p.m., Main Street at Arrowhead Trail. Randall L. McCartney, 66, rural Bluffton, changed lanes in his 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck to avoid construction in his lane ahead. As he changed lanes, he was unable to get stopped in time before striking a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck from behind driven by Aaron M. Steffen, 27, Bluffton. Damage exceeded $2,500.
Tuesday, 9:45 a.m.,, Apache Propane, 1637 W. Lancaster St. Murodullaev Sardor, 28, San Francisco, Calif., was driving a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia semi registered to Trans Lines Inc., Bolingbrook, Ill., south on a private drive trying to go around another parked semi when the tractor trailer clipped an electric meter on the side of a Bluffton Utilities electric pole. Sardor then left the scene but his semi was located at a nearby business. Total damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

Monday, Feb. 14, 9:35 p.m., Ind. 116 east of Ind. 1 south. Conner R. Bowman, 21, Bluffton, was driving a 2008 Ford Mustang southeast on Ind. 116 when he swerved to miss a deer, drove off the road, overcorrected, came back onto the road and travelled off the road again. The car hit banked snow in the ditch and flipped, rolling over twice completely before coming to a rest on its wheels. Bowman said he could not get cell phone service when he tried to call the accident in and when he walked to a nearby house to report the accident, he could not get anyone to answer the door. He said he then returned to his vehicle, got in and drove away. He reported the crash to authorities 29 hours after it happened. Damage to the car exceeded $5,000.
Friday, 9:45 a.m., 900S east of 600E. Caleb B. Linzey, 20, Worthington, Ind., was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Passat, registered to Kevin Hannula of Bloomington, east on 900N when he lost control of the car on the icy roadway. It slid off the road and flipped onto the driver’s side, striking an American Electric Power pole in the process. Damage exceeded $5,000.
Saturday, 9:05 p.m., 100W at Ind. 218. The intersection is offset at that location with 100W north of Ind. 218 being about 75 feet west of 100W south of Ind. 218. Nina H. Osgood, 69, Montpelier, was driving south on 100W when she drove through the intersection straight into the field on the opposite side of Ind. 218. Damage to the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country van she was driving exceeded $2,500.
Monday, 6:35 a.m., Church Road. Kevin R. Dekan, 39, rural Craigville, hit a deer with a 2013 Chevrolet E250 van registered to Votow Electric, Fort Wayne. Damage to the van exceeded $2,500.
Tuesday, 8:35 a.m., 100W south of 500N. Esteban Fernando Carrera Lopez, 22, rural Uniondale, was driving a 1999 Dodge Intrepid south on 100W when the car slid off the road and hit a Frontier Communications utility pole. Lopez then drove away from the scene of the accident but the vehicle came to a stop about a mile up the road after it mechanically could go no further. He then allegedly pulled the vehicle off to the side of the road in front of a residence, causing damage to the yard, and left the vehicle on foot. Damage exceeded $10,000. Lopez was cited for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, a Class B misdemeanor, and for operating a motor vehicle while never having been issued a driver’s license, a Class C misdemeanor.
FIRE RUNS
Monday, 12:47 p.m., smoke detector alarm sounding in an apartment where no one was home at 500 Maddux Street in Markle. The Markle Fire Department was dispatched. Entry was made to the apartment but there was no fire.
Tuesday, 3:52 a.m., 534 E. South St., residence of Jonathon Michael Skordos. Smell of smoke in the house. Bluffton Fire Department dispatched and checked the house but no fire, smoke nor any unusual source that would generate heat was found.
