Two Norwell relays ended their seasons at the IHSAA state finals at IUPUI over the weekend. 

The Lady Knights’ 200 medley relay of Jillian Melcher, Riley Meredith, Ella Krug, and Emerson Meredith finished 32nd in the prelims with a time of 1:58.76. 

It was just a bit below their time the week before when they finished first in the Jay County sectional with a time of 1:56.04. 

Norwell’s 400 freestyle relay – making its fifth straight trip to state – came in 31st in the prelims. Emma Page, Aubreyan Heyerly, Krug, and Melcher finished with a time of 3:56.11. In the week before at sectional, the relay won with a time of 3:56.29. 

Norwell as a team won the sectional championship at Jay County for the first time since 2010. 

Carmel scored 461 points at state to claim its 36th straight team championship, which is a national record for any sport or gender. Fishers was the runner-up with 283 points, followed by Hamilton Southeastern with 164, Concord with 162, and Zionsville with 147.
