Thomas L. Durr, 82 of Okeechobee, Florida, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026.

Tom leaves an imprint of love on our hearts for his joking, fun loving, and caring personality.

He was born on Nov. 7, 1943, in Bluffton to Garth L. and Catherine (Elston) Durr, both of whom preceded him in death. Tom shared the last 15 wonderful years with his devoted partner, Carol McDougall.

A 1961 graduate of Lancaster Central High School, Tom later served as a member of the Indiana National Guard. He enjoyed careers with International Harvester, Hiday Motors, Bankers Life Insurance Company, and Peyton Northern in Bluffton.

In 2013, Tom and Carol relocated to Florida, a place he loved dearly. He immediately made new friends, enjoyed his golf cart and motorcycle rides while visiting with friends along the way. Tom loved his family, people, horses, and his motorcycles.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy (Victor) King, and granddaughter, Allison King, of Bellevue, Washington; Ardelia (Dell) Durr, former wife and mother of Amy of Bellevue, Washington; sister, Sonia (Steve) Shaw of Craigville; nephews, Kent (Jennifer) Shaw of Fort Wayne; Kyle (Kathy) Shaw of Salem, Oregon; Carol McDougall of Okeechobee, Florida and her daughters Cris (Jeff) Koenemann of Silver Lake, Indiana, and Cheri (Rick) Hazelett of Coldwater, Ohio; along with five great nieces and nephews, many cousins, and countless special friends.

In accordance with Tom’s wishes, there will be no public visitation.

As a family, we request that you honor Tom’s love for people by performing an act of kindness or simply calling a friend.
