William “Bill” L. Ringger, 103, of rural Bluffton, passed away Thursday afternoon, Sept. 24, 2026, at Christian Care Retirement Community.
Bill was born in Adams County on May 11, 1923, to George and Leah (Steffen) Ringger, Sr. He married Marjorie Jane Frauhiger at the Apostolic Christian Church on Nov. 25, 1945. Bill and Marge were married for 71 years until she preceded him in death on April 15, 2017.
Bill was a long-time member of the Apostolic Christian Church. For most of his life Bill was committed to tomato farming, which he did for 40 years. After retiring from farming, he helped deliver gas for Isch Gas in Bluffton and later ventured into delivering motor homes for Don Ray Drive-Away in Decatur. Bill and Marge traveled to many states delivering motor homes for several years.
After he finished working for Don Ray, Bill decided to start his own woodworking shop in the basement of his home, beginning with just one table saw. He grew his business over the years and made several hundred birdhouses, which he loved giving away to friends and family. Bill even made a special effort to make sure that every nurse and waitress in the community had their own birdhouse. In September of 2025, Bill finally moved from his home in Adams County to Christian Care in Bluffton.
Bill is survived by three daughters, Colleen Landrum of Bluffton, Claudia Ringger of Decatur, and Shelley (John) Brickley of Bluffton; three sons, Deryll (Annette) Ringger of Fort Wayne, Ked (Shelley) Ringger of Decatur, and Kendall Ringger of Bluffton; a brother, Al (Colleen) Ringger of Bluffton; a sister, Lillian Yergler of Bluffton; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Ringger of Bluffton; along with 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Sandy Ringger; a great-grandson, Christopher Landrum; two sisters, Mary Frauhiger and Ida Aschliman; and six brothers, Ray, Orville, Rueben, Sylvan “Sib”, Arthur and George Ringger.
Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, from 2 until 7 p.m., at Goodwin – Harnish Funeral Home in Bluffton. Services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 10:30 a.m., at the Apostolic Christian Church East, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Vince Pfister and Jeff Leman will officiate. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Adams County.
