Dale G. Runkle, 82, of Montpelier passed away on Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, at Heritage Pointe in Warren.
He was born on Wednesday, July 26, 1944, in Wells County and had resided in Jackson Township most of his life. Dale was a 1962 graduate of Jackson High School. He proudly served with the Bluffton unit of the National Guard.
Dale worked at Max Ellerman Body Shop in Warren and later at the Fisher Body GM plant in Marion. He was a member of the High Street Coffee Club and the Montpelier Speedway. Dale enjoyed restoring cars, mushroom hunting and tinkering with all kinds of things. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Kim (Greg) Huffman of Warren; former spouse, Donna Runkle of Warren; grandchildren, Travis Mark Huffman of Keystone, Evan Jake (Kendra) Huffman of Portland and Mason Gregory Huffman of Montpelier; great-grandchildren, Stetson Huffman and Berkley Huffman; brothers, David Runkle of Montpelier, Dennis Runkle of Warren, Dallas Runkle of Warren and Darren Runkle of Warren; and sisters, Janice Huffman of Montpelier and Jody Caylor.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Kyler F. and Amy K. (Booher) Runkle, and his son, Mark T. Runkle.
Family and friends may gather to share memories and celebrate Dale’s life from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St. in Montpelier.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home with Ryan Ingram officiating. Interment will follow at Jones Cemetery in Warren.
