Thomas E. “Gene” Morehouse, 71, of Uniondale, formerly of Roll, passed away at 8:26 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne.
He was born on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1954, in Hartford City. He married Penny Diane (Dollar) Morehouse on Thursday, July 19, 1984, in Pennville. Gene was a 1973 graduate of Blackford High School. He worked for C&C Oil Co. in Huntington and retired from Indiana Box Corp. in Montpelier. Gene enjoyed bowling in Hartford City, fishing, and gardening.
He will be forever missed by his wife, Penny Diane (Dollar) Morehouse of Uniondale; children, Andrew (Kristie) Morehouse of Decatur and Lacey (Doug) Paxson of Hartford City; four grandchildren; brothers, Jeff (Irene) Taylor of Redkey and Ron Morehouse of Dunkirk; sisters, Connie Morehouse of Fairmount and Kathy (Randy) Risinger of Montpelier; stepsister, Mary (Gary) Campbell of Hartford City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Aden Morehouse; mother, Virginia L. (Anderson) Spears; sisters, Betty Thornburgh and Penny Taylor; and stepbrother, Terry J. Anderson.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W Windsor St. in Montpelier.
A service to celebrate Gene’s life will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, at the funeral home with Pastor Jesse M. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Montpelier.
