Raiders improve to 5-0 in ACAC girls’ golf
Southern Wells took down South Adams at Wabash Valley Thursday, and is now one win away from an unbeaten conference season.
The Raiders topped the Starfires 187-211, improving to a 5-0 record in the ACAC. Only Jay County stands in the way, and those two will square off on Sept. 17 at Dogwood for the final match in the regular season. The match is also three days after the ACAC Conference meet.
Callie Ripperger was the medalist and shot a 44, followed by Sohpie Meeks (45), Erika Beavans (48) and Kolbie Beavans (50).
Southern Wells’ next match will be at Northfield at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Knights’ Mann nets hat trick, leads to win over Patriots
Norwell defeated Jay County 4-1 at home in girls’ soccer Thursday night.
The Knights were led by Grace Mann’s hat trick and one assist, adding 11 goals to her tally this year. The other goal went to Aubrey Meyer, who also had an assist. Karrigan Melcher had an assist as well. The team improved to 4-3 on the season.
Abby Wagner was in net for the first half and Maggie Neuenschwander was in for the second half.
In the junior varsity game, both teams tied 0-0 in a half-game.
Norwell will host North Side at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6.
Knights top NE8 foe Vikings in road girls’ golf match
Norwell won the road girls’ golf match with NE8 opponent Huntington North on Thursday.
The Knights shot a 184 to the Vikings’ 203. Savanna Simerman was the medalist with a 42, followed by Ellie Gatton (45), Jordyn Shroyer (47), Emma Burnau (50) and Jessica Bynum (53).
Norwell also played a round with two junior varsity players. Kylee Nevius shot a 46, followed by Jacquelyn Mayer (55).
Norwell will host Northeast 8 Conference foe Columbia City at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Tigers best Patriots in road ACAC girls’ golf match
Bluffton defeated Heritage in ACAC girls’ golf competition Thursday at McMillen Golf Course.
The Tigers shot a 184 to the Patriots’ 206. Emma Schwartz was the medalist and shot a 38, followed by Eve Corkwell (44), Tressa Renner (50) and Piper Morgan and Addison Kauffman (52).
Bluffton sent five on junior varsity. Madelyn Funk and Aleeah Grover led the way with 54s, followed by Isabella Stout (55), Sy’Annah Jordan-Turner (57) and Rylee Todd (60).
Bluffton will be at Blackhawk at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Knights fall to Starfires in VB
Norwell fell on the road against South Adams Thursday night.
The Knights fell 25-16, 25-12 and 25-16. Their record falls to 7-5 on the season.
Stat leaders were: Jaycie Grzych 10 kills (Hope Mitchell nine, Vanessa Rosswurm eight), Emma Vachon and Autumn Lee two aces, Vachon 24 assists and 17 digs and Mekynzi Beck and Vachon two blocks.
Norwell also fell in the junior varsity game against South Adams 2-0 (25-19, 25-15) and freshman game against South Side 2-0 (25-2, 25-5).
Norwell will host Dwenger in its next game starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Knights lose to Patriots on the road in boys’ soccer
Norwell fell on the road against Jay County 4-2 in boys’ soccer Thursday night.
The Knights fell to 4-4 on the season. Kyler Morris and Matthew Hernandez scored the goals for Norwell. Morris now has seven goals on the season. A.J. Bunn had an assist.
Norwell won the junior varsity game 2-0. Hernandez and Cooper Nagel scored the goals for Norwell, and Marvin Keller picked up an assist.
Norwell will be at New Haven in conference play at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Bluffton swept vs. Manchester
Bluffton was swept in volleyball at Manchester Thursday night.
The Tigers lost 25-14, 25-16 and 25-21, dropping to a 2-7 on the season.
Stat leaders were: Maryn Schreiber 11 kills (Konley Ault nine), Isla Gibson 20 assists and two aces, Marly Drayer 21 digs and Schreiber three blocks.
Bluffton lost the junior varsity contest 2-1 (25-19, 20-25, 5-15). Stat leaders were: Lucynda Mace seven kills, Kamryn Ault nine assists, Kenley Smith five aces, Ault 10 digs and Bridget Steffen two blocks.
Bluffton will be at Northfield at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9.
Knights sweep Raiders in middle school volleyball
Norwell’s eighth and seventh grade volleyball teams defeated Southern Wells on Thursday.
The eighth grade team won 25-5, 25-6. The seventh grade team won 25-8 in both sets.
