Wells County schools race at New Haven XC invitational
Bluffton, Norwell and Southern Wells all raced at the same New Haven Classic at Huntington University Saturday morning.
All three schools for boys and girls ran different divisions A through AAA.
In the boys’ AAA Division, Bluffton’s boys placed eighth with 209 points. Homestead (47 team points), Edgewood (98) and Carroll (114) went 1-3.
In the boys’ AA Division, Norwell placed seventh with 189 points. West Noble (94), Wawasee (96) and Hamilton Heights (94) went 1-3.
In the boys’ A Division, Southern Wells placed sixth with 205 points. Monroe Central (123 team points), Lakewood Park Christian (127) and Manchester (128) went 1-3.
In the girls’ AA Division, Norwell finished in third place with 95 points and Bluffton ninth (263). Hamilton Heights (72 team points), Bishop Dwenger (83) went 1-3.
In the girls’ A Division, Southern Wells finished sixth with 159, points tied with Canterbury. Elkhart Christian (66 team points), Adams Central (77) and Manchester (86) went 1-3.

Southern Wells
Boys: Kelton Barr finished 16th with a time of 18:22.50, Jarin Frauhiger 36th (19:06.60), Colter Kiel 40th (19:14.80), Miles Garrett 59th (19:49.40), Daniel Isasi Escudero 71st (20:02.00), Peyton Ellis 87th (20:32.00) and Kane Jenkins 106th (21:26.90).
Girls: Marianne Pease finished 26th with a time of 22:44.70, Sarah McFarren 47th (25:05.60), Keely Miller 60th (26:11.80), Kameron Hawkins 68th (26:55.90), Gracie Reeves 70th (27:05.60), Shaylinn Geesaman 83rd (28:25.40) and Chanie Mounsey 91st (30:00.50).
Bluffton will host Southern Wells at the Bluffton Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.
Norwell will compete for the Northeast 8 Conference meet at Columbia City starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.
Soccer pairings released
The boys’ and girls’ sectional pairings occurred Sunday night on the IHSAA’s website.
The sectional tournament will be played the week of Oct. 7 with Concordia hosting the boys and Norwell hosting the girls.
The Knight boys (7-7) drew Woodlan (5-8-1) in the second game on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The first game will start at 5 p.m. with the Knights’ game to follow. Norwell defeated Woodlan early in the season 5-1.
The Knight girls (9-5) drew the only bye of the first round and will play the winner of Canterbury (5-7) and Heritage (4-9-1) on Thursday, Oct. 10. Norwell defeated Heritage recently 5-1, but has not played Canterbury.
Knights pick up big road boys’ soccer victory in NE8
Norwell got an important road victory over NE8 opponent Columbia City on Saturday.
The Knights defeated the Eagles 3-0, improving their record to 7-7 and 2-4 in the conference.
Norwell has now won three of its last four games with two matches remaining.
Kyler Morris scored two goals for the Knights, adding his season total now to a team-leading 13. Noah Schamerloh scored a goal, his second game in a row with one. Kale Fuess recorded two assists and Morris one.
Philip Gaier had nine saves in the shutout effort.
The junior varsity match ended in a tie. Brennan Fryback had seven saves.
Norwell will host Huntington North at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30.
Knights tie in both JV girls’ soccer matches
Norwell’s junior varsity girls’ soccer team went 0-0-2 in the Teagarden JV soccer showcase on Saturday.
The Knights finished at 0-0 with Northrop in their first game, and tied 1-1 in the second.
Maggie Neuenschwander and Emma Garner were in goal for the first game.
In the second game, Kayleigh Hartup scored off of a Kaylee Bennett shot. Neuenschwander and Garner were in goal again.
Raider boys win middle school New Haven invite
Southern Wells Middle School boys’ team won the New Haven Classic on Saturday.
The boys finished with a team score of 59 points. Medal runners for the Raider boys were: Logan Leas with a time of 10:35, Rylan Leas (10:52), Chase Kirkwood (10:53), Colten Fiechter (11:02), Logan Rogers (11:39), Vance Mounsey (11:56) and Liam Leas (12:48)
The girls finished fifth. Medal runners for the Raiders were: Aubree Neuenschwander with a time of 12:16, Grace Rogers (12:56), Tenley Fiechter (13:04), Parker Bryant (13:24), Alexis Sunderman (13:55), Ellie Nichols (14:03) and Anna McFarren (14:11).
