A cancer benefit fundraiser on July 13 will close down Oak Street from Wabash Street to Market Street, with the Board of Public Works and Safety approving the closure Tuesday.
Ashley Miller came before the Board of Works and announced the benefit fundraiser for her 13-year-old daughter Addison, who was diagnosed in April of this year. The fundraiser will be held at 119 North Oak St. and will feature a cookout, bake sale and raffle, with all funds helping the family with medical bills and expenses. The listed time for the event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Our hearts go out to you and your family,” Mayor John Whicker said.
Miller stated that while they moved away for a few years, Addison wished to move back to Bluffton, which the family did a couple of months ago.
The board also approved raises for six city employees. Electric Department Linemean Travis Barnes, Water Department Pipe Fitter Mechanic Shane Bennett, Animal Control Officer Megan Bowling, Street Department Employee Todd Chrisman and Street Department Truck Drivers Billy France and Steve Gase were all given $1 hourly raises.
