Bluffton’s Johnny Cruz will live to see another day, and Norwell’s Hunter Douglas’ season came to a close Friday at the wrestling state championships at Evansville.
Cruz pinned the No. 3 seeded Aramis McNutt (25-2) from Highland in 2:16 at 285 pounds. He will wrestle tomorrow for the state quarterfinal round.
His opponent will be the No. 8 seed Hosia Smith from Indianapolis Cathedral. Cruz is the No. 10 285-pounder in the state.
For Norwell, Douglas fell to No. 10 Chayce Yant of Fishers in the first round by technical fall 18-3 at 120 pounds. Douglas finishes the season with a 18-6 record as a sophomore.
The quarterfinals will begin at 9 a.m. at the Ford Center in Evansville.
