Knight girls’ win in NE8 soccer match over Bulldogs

The Norwell girls’ soccer team earned a road victory over New Haven in NE8 Conference play 9-0 Wednesday night.

Norwell is now 5-2-1 on the season and 2-1 in Northeast 8 Conference play.

Grace Mann led the way with a hat trick and multiple assists. Makenzie Fuess scored two goals and had a few assists. Aubrey Meyer, Ridley Sheets, Issie Isch, and Addyson Heyerly had one goal each.

Gracie Rinkenberger and Abby Wagner were both in net for the shutout.

Norwell will be at Leo for another NE8 battle starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.

Knights win over 1A No. 9 Norseman in volleyball

Norwell’s volleyball team won over No. 9 in 1A Northfield at home in four sets Thursday night at the Castle.

The Knights lost the first set 20-25, won the second 25-20, won the third 25-21, and won the fourth 25-23. 

Stat leaders for the night were Vanessa Rosswurm with 13 kills and three blocks, Jordyn Xayyachack with 23 digs, Macie Saalfrank with 22 assists, and Rebecca Settle with three aces.

The junior varsity team won in two sets (25-17, 25-20), while the freshman team lost in two sets (22-25, 21-25).

Norwell will host Blackford at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7.

Tigers win 8th & 7th grade football games over Starfires

The Bluffton Middle School football teams swept South Adams Tuesday night.

The eighth-grade team played a full, four-quarter game and won 34-12.

The Tigers outgained The Starfires 349 to 63 in total yardage.

Gavin Grieser led the passing game with 8-14 with 125 yards and a touchdown. 

Dawson Lee led the rushing attack with 17 carries and 11 yards. Parker Barnes found the endzone twice for 64 yards, Rafe Gerber scored on 32 yards, and Grieser had 20 yards and a score.

On the receiving end, Parker Barnes had three catches for 52 yards, Reid Abbett had three catches for 46 yards and a touchdown, Bennett Stoller had 22 yards, and Lee had five yards.

On defense, Bennett Stoller led the way with three solo tackles and one assist, Lee had two solo and one assist, Grieser had two solo, and Barnes had one solo and two assists. Gibby Grieser had two interceptions.

In the seventh-grade game, the Tigers won 14-0 in two quarters with a running clock and no special teams.

Bluffton had four plays for 159 yards, while South Adams had 15 plays for 12 yards.

Ethan Ribich had one passing attempt for 13 yards.

Maddox White had a 65-yard touchdown, and so did Chase Kistler. Ribich had one attempt for 16 yards.

Rogan Johns caught the lone pass for 13 yards.

White and Kistler were the top tacklers in the game with two solo tackles each.

Tigers top Panthers in girls’ golf match

Bluffton earned a road victory on the girls’ golf course Wednesday with a 207-223 win over Eastbrook with four golfers.

Leading the Tigers was Emma Schwartz, who shot a 47 and was the medalist, followed by Eve Corkwell (49), Piper Morgan (52), and Tressa Renner (59).

Bluffton will be at Timber Ridge Golf Course to face Norwell at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7.

Knights edge Lions in road NE8 girls’ golf match

The Norwell girls’ golf team edged out Leo 192-194 on the road Wednesday.

Leading the way for the Knights was Ellie Gatton with a 46, followed by Emmy Heaston (47), Savanna Simmerman (49), Anna Dodane (50), and Nevada Lenwell (54).

Emma Dodane scored a 52, and Kylee Nevius scored a 54 in the junior varsity match.

Norwell will be at home to face Bluffton starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7.
