It’s called a “quartoseptennial,” and Zanesville’s celebrating one this coming Saturday, July 29.
The town of 625 residents will mark the 175th anniversary of the town’s founding with a variety of events, including a parade at 10 a.m., a car show, and townwide garage sales. There is a hula-hoop exhibition and a beard-growing contest, an old-fashioned baseball game, and a performance by a group of cloggers.
Here’s a highlight of the events:
• The car show will take place at the Tower Life Center with registration from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m. Food available at the site will be biscuits and gravy, coffee, donuts, and snacks.
• The parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. There is no entry fee. For information, call Clerk-Treasurer Tara Bowersock at 260-760-6070.
• Garage sales will be held Friday and Saturday. The Zanesville Church of God will offer breakfast and lunch at the church building on Friday and at the ball park on Saturday. The menu includes pancakes and sausages, brats, and onion rings.
• The Zanesville Lions Club will offer concessions, including apple dumplings, ice cream sundaes, and miscellaneous floats at the ball park on Saturday.
• In addition to the car show on Saturday, the Tower Life Center will be the site of a hula hoop and line dancing show at 10:30 a.m., Apple Jack Club cloggers at 11:30 a.m., and the car show awards at 2 p.m.
• The ballpark will host the Drovertown Black Flag 1869-era baseball game at 11:30 a.m. and the beard contest at 1:30 p.m.
• There will be free horse and wagon rides during the day.
From 4 to 7 p.m., the Zanesville United Brethren Church will host a “Back to School Bash” with family-oriented activities for preschoolers up to seniors. Students can pick up a free backpack, have a photo taken, get a haircut, and pick up school supplies. There will be food and drinks available, and at 6 p.m., there will be a water balloon fight.
The town’s 175th birthday party is being sponsored by the Zanesville Lions Club and co-sponsored by the Zanesville Town Council.
