With nearly a decade in the nonprofit industry, Ben Renkenberger has joined the leadership team at United Way. Renkenberger has stepped in to fill the role previously filled by Pamela Beckford, who served as executive director with the Wells County organization for more than 23 years.

“I have big shoes to fill,” Renkenberger said. “Reflecting on where United Way of Wells County has been, the growth has been enormous. So much of that is due to Pamela’s more than 23 years here. She has certainly set the organization, and me, up for success in the path moving forward. I am honored to pick up where she left off.”

Renkenberger entered the nonprofit world nearly a decade ago when he helped establish The Collaborative Inc, a nonprofit created to mentor young leaders. Since that time, he has also worked as the director of development for Big Fish Ministries, a biblical-based residential recovery program in Alabama, and served in multiple executive ministry roles. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Renkenberger said his favorite title he has held is “a father to four fantastic children, and a husband to the most outstanding, incredible wife.”

Renkenberger also regularly volunteers for Place of Grace, a residential recovery home in Huntington where his wife, Brittany, serves as the executive director.

Renkenberger said he believes his unique experiences and passions, such as servant leadership, cultivating relationships, and financial stewardship, have equipped him well for the role. According to the United Way of Wells County Board Chair, Jessica Bricker, Renkenberger is not the only one who holds this belief.

“The United Way of Wells County board of directors and its transition committee are thrilled to welcome Ben as our next CEO,” Bricker said. “His passion for people is evident and we share the same vision for United Way’s growth. Ben has served communities well for years and we believe his experience will be a great addition to Wells County as our United Way continues to champion early childhood education and meeting the needs of our citizens.”

As Renkenberger settles into the leadership role at United Way, he said he looks forward to serving the community well.

“There are so many aspects to all that United Way encompasses,” Renkenberger said. “Though I have a lot to learn, I have a lot to offer. I have a fantastic assistant and team here, and so much support from the community already. I am excited to make an impact for the families in Wells County.”
