Tigers leap into 2nd place in ACAC in baseball win

The Bluffton boys’ baseball team’s nine runs in the first inning helped the Tigers defeat ACAC for Adams Central at home Friday.

Bluffton is now a half-game ahead of Woodlan for second place in the conference.

Brody Lewis and Drew Pressler led the team with two hits each and an RBI. Braxton Betancourt drove in a team-high four runs with a double.

Andrew Onuegbu for the win, tossing just one inning and allowing one run.

Bluffton will be at Eastbrook at 5 p.m. Monday, May 8.

Norwell wins in boys’ 

golf over Whitko

The Norwell boys’ golf team defeated Whitko at home on Thursday by a team score of 177-254.

The Knights were led by Ashton Federspiel, who shot a 43 and was the medalist. Following him was Derek Smith with a 44, Ethan Ottinger and Cooper Sloan shot 45s, and Chase Hulvey shot a 49.

In the junior varsity match, the Knights won 145-216.

The Knights were led by Phil Gaier, with a 46, and was the medalist. Followed by Bodie Zimmer with a 48 and Kaedyn Quintanilla 51.

Norwell will be at the Bi-County meet starting at 9 a.m.Saturday, May 6.

Southern Wells falls to 

Bishop Luers in softball

The Southern Wells softball team fell at home to Bishop Luers 6-3.

The Raiders were led by Kenzie Paxson’s team-leading two hits with a double. The Raiders had seven hits on the day.

Of the six runs, only one was earned, allowed by Maddy Sutton, who threw three innings, striking out four. Emma Parks threw four innings and allowed two unearned runs and one hit.

Southern Wells will host Jay County at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 9. 

Knights fall to Spartans 

in close softball game

Norwell’s softball team nearly got a three-game sweep in its recent homestand, falling to Homestead 7-6 Friday.

The Knights tallied 10 hits in the game, two each by Delaney Connett, Jordan Markley, and Leah Werling. Werling and Teagan Lesley had doubles.

Madyson Sonnigsen got the loss, throwing 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs (one earned) on 10 hits, three walks, and a pair of strikeouts.

Sami Lemler threw two 1/3 innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit, no walks, and two strikeouts.

Norwell will host Heritage at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6.

Knights rout Starfires in junior varsity baseball

The Norwell junior varsity won in a blowout over South Adams at home Friday 18-2.

The Knights had 10 hits from 10 different players. Gary Riley and Max Babcock tallied two RBIs on the day. Noah Turk, L. Ward, and Noah Schamerloah had doubles, and Riley hit a home run.

Ryne Thornton got the win, tossing five innings, allowing two unearned runs, one hit, and six strikeouts.

Norwell will be at DeKalb at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9.
