Shirley Jean (Masterson) Lyons, 88, of Bluffton, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at River Terrace in Bluffton.

Shirley was born on Oct. 28, 1934, in Bluffton, to the late John and Edith (Bowman) Arnold. She married Marlin Masterson in 1950, and he preceded her in death in 1995. Her second marriage was to Billy J. Lyons on Aug. 21, 1996, and he preceded her in death on May 28, 2014.

Shirley was a childcare provider out of her home for many years. She was a member of the Liberty Center Baptist Church in Liberty Center, and also a member of the American Legion #160 Auxiliary in Roanoke. Shirley enjoyed crocheting, painting, crafts, sewing, watching soap operas and making cookies, and especially her family.

Shirley is survived by two sons, David Masterson of Marion, Paul (Lora) Masterson of Poneto; four daughters, Debra (Kevin) Smith of Punta Gorda, Fla., Sandra (Rick) Nine of Roanoke, Christina Eckelbarger of Bluffton, Beth (Bob) Fuller of Marion; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Murray, a grandson, Michael Dunn, two brothers, Bill Arnold and Larry Arnold, and two sisters, Evelyn Stammen and Phyllis Harness.

Calling hours will be held from 4–7 p.m. on Friday May 5, 2023. A funeral Service will at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023, with calling one hour prior. All services will be held at McElhaney Funeral Home-Roanoke Chapel, 240 Crestwood Drive in Roanoke with Pastor Aaron Westfall officiating.

Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Roanoke.

Thomas James Crago, 86

Thomas James “Jim” Crago, 86 of Markle, died Monday morning, May 1, 2023, at River Terrace in Bluffton.  

Jim was born July 24, 1936 in Huntington, a son of Laymon and Esther (Shively) Crago. 

He was united in marriage to Fondra Funderburg on June 9, 1959.  His wife of 63 years survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Curt (Joy) Crago and Chad Crago; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A private family graveside will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023, at the Markle Cemetery.
