INCIDENTS

City:

Wednesday, 2:44 p.m., North Main and East Monroe Streets. Cable in the road. Traffic was stopped while INDOT fixed the wire.

Wednesday, 3:46 p.m., Quality Car Care. Caller struck by a black Chevy. Complained of knee and hip pain. Caller refused EMS. Surveillance footage was reviewed but there were no leads on the driver.

Wednesday, 7:14 p.m., East Ind. 124 and North Meridian Road. Report of a white Sedan and a white Silverado traveling at high speeds. A white silverado in the area was found driving within speed limit. No white SUV was found.

Wednesday, 7:32 p.m., residence on West Market Street. Caller reported an adult male was following her 10 year-old son home from church. Man advised he had been trying to speak with the juvenile about a fight that had occurred between his son and the woman’s son.

Thursday, 5:07 a.m., North Main and East Market Street, caller requested a welfare check for a man sleeping in his vehicle in front of the courthouse. The man was OK and advised he was keeping an eye on equipment set up for the Salvation Army. 

Thursday, 11:03 a.m., Hardees. Caller reported a male looking in the windows of vehicles in the southbound parking lot. 

Thursday, 12:20 p.m., South Morgan Street, caller reported a male walking down the street in coveralls and a white mask of some sort. Unable to locate.

County:

Wednesday, 3:16 p.m., Ind. 1 and U.S. 224. Property damage accident. Subject owns both vehicles involved and damage was minor. No report needed. 

Wednesday, 3:27 p.m., residence on East Morse Street, Markle. Deputy followed up with a resident regarding an incident where an individual pulled in the driveway and walked around the back of the property with an ax or sledgehammer. 

Wednesday, 3:39 p.m., Ind. 116 and 400W. Vehicle found at the side of the road with hazards on. Driver located nearby mushroom hunting. Nothing follows. 

Wednesday, 4:35 p.m., residence on South Main St., Liberty Center. Provided standby while the Department of Child Services removed two children. 

Wednesday, 8:45 p.m., residence on 1100N, Markle. Mother reported her child was last in the care of the child’s father, but was not at the father’s address when the mother tried to pick-up the child. The child was supposedly in another city, and the deputy advised to go to that city and contact the local authorities to attempt to locate the child. 

Thursday, 6:39 a.m., 8708S 600W, Warren. Driver laid the motorcycle down to avoid collision with a deer in the roadway. Driver had road rash on his arms but declined EMS. Accident report to follow. 

Thursday, 6:41 p.m., West Ind. 124 and North 300W. Citation issued for 70 in a 55 mph zone. 

Ossian:

Wednesday, 6:42 p.m., residence on East North Street. Two vehicles broken into early in the morning. Door camera shows the incident. Nothing was reported to have been taken and the individual could not be identified in the video. 

Wednesday, 9:49 p.m., 5859N 450E. Report of a green Camaro speeding and revving the engine, almost hitting another vehicle. The caller said this is a recurring issue. Unable to locate the vehicle. 

ACCIDENTS

City:

Wednesday, 4:55 p.m., Ind. 116. Matthew T. Johnson, 28, Hoagland, was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue eastbound on Ind. 116 and failed to see a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Amy J. Searles, 47, Bluffton, stop to turn in a driveway. Johnson’s vehicle rear-ended Searles’ vehicle, causing it to do a 180 degree turn and come to a stop in her neighbor’s side of the shared driveway at 2886 SE Ind. 116. Johnson advised he had looked down to change something on his radio and when he looked up it was too late to stop. Searles complained of head, neck, back and leg pain at the scene and was checked on by Wells County EMS, but refused to go immediately to the hospital. Both vehicles were towed by Pemberton’s. Damage exceeded $10,000. 

Thursday, 9:41 a.m., 1501 Stogdill Road at the intersection of Old Creek Drive. Deborah D. Crump, 56, Poneto, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Impala out of a driveway and struck a parked 2009 Chrysler Town and Country van. Damage exceeded $1,000. 

County:

Wednesday, 2:42 p.m., U.S. 224 near Ind. 1, Kingsland. Jack M. Bowling, 17, Ossian, was driving a 2016 Nissan Versa and rearended a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Addyson Heyerly, 17, Ossian, which had slowed due to a van that had pulled off the road. Damage exceeded $5,000.

FIRES

Thursday, 6:42 a.m., Praxis. Fire alarm. Building evacuated at 6:49 a.m. Bluffton Fire Department responded. No fire found.

ARRESTS

Louis Charles Gates, 32, Indianapolis; burglary, a Level 4 felony, theft, a Class A misdemeanor, theft of a vehicle, a Level 6 felony. Bond set at $16,500. 

Clint Adam Carpenter, 37, Bluffton; leaving the scene of a crash, a Class B misdemeanor. Bond set at $1,000. Bonded.
