Knights top Tigers in Wells County baseball showdown
Norwell got the best of Bluffton Thursday with a 5-1 road victory over Bluffton.
The Knights were led by a two-for-three performance by Graham Gaier, who had two doubles in the game with three RBIs. Lleyton Bailey had a hit and an RBI.
Lane Lewis got the win, allowing just the one run in a complete game effort, striking out nine with four hits and a walk.
Bluffton got two hits, including a triple from Drew Pressler, and the lone RBI was by Kayden King.
Braxton Betancourt got the loss, throwing a complete game allowing five runs (two earned), striking out 10, and allowing five hits.
Norwell will play in the sectional next week in its next game at Oak Hill High School against Mississinewa. The game will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 24.
Bluffton will host Southwood at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, for a doubleheader.
Raiders top Argylls in boys’ golf match
Southern Wells boys’ golf team defeated Madison-Grant at home Thursday.
The Raiders shot a 180, while the Argylls shot a 240.
Gabe McElhaney was the medalist of the match, shooting a 39. Following him was Bailey Couch with a 44, Chandler Oswalt with a 46, and Quinton Mullins with a 51.
Southern Wells will be at Celina Linx Golf Course next for the ACAC meet starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 20.
Tigers lose to Golden Falcons in softball
Bluffton’s softball team lost on the road at Winchester 11-7 Thursday.
Marly Drayer and Claire Craighead led the team with three hits, and Craighead had two RBIs. Lily King had two hits and three RBIs, with a triple. Konley Ault also had a two-hit night.
King threw a complete game, throwing six innings and allowing 11 runs (three earned) while striking out three.
Bluffton will host Southwood at 5 p.m. Friday, May 19.
Southern Wells falls to Wapahani in softball
The Southern Wells softball team was defeated by Wapahani at home 12-2 Thursday.
The Raiders had four hits, one each by Emma Parks, Kyah Thomas, Raigen Tarr, and Morgan Jones. Parks and Tarr had two stolen bases.
Thomas had the lone RBI for the Raiders.
Jones earned the loss, throwing four 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs (two were earned) and six hits.
Southern Wells will host Wayne at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 19.
Knights edge Lions in junior varsity baseball
Norwell’s junior varsity baseball team won 10-9 over Leo at home on Thursay.
The Knights were led by Adam McBride’s three hits and two RBIs who had a double. Ryne Thornton, Will Case, Gary Riley, and Max Babcock all had two-hit games.
Noah Turk got the win, throwing four 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (only one earned) striking out five. Thornton threw two innings in relief and allowed one run.
Norwell will host Heritage at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 19.
