The Norwell baseball team split a home doubleheader with one of the best baseball teams in the state Saturday.
Guerin Catholic (18-2), No. 3 in Class 3A, went into the series with just one loss, Norwell, with the split, is now 14-5.
Norwell won Game 1 6-1 behind the performance of starting pitcher Lane Lewis, throwing a complete game, allowing just one run, and struck out six.
On the offensive side, Graham Gaier, Brody Bolyn, and Luke Graft all led the team with two hits each. Bolyn brought in two with a double.
Lleyton Bailey and Curtis Ellis drove in two runs each.
In Game 2, the Golden Eagles won 7-5.
Bolyn got the loss pitching one inning in relief, allowing three unearned runs. Gaier threw five innings in his start, allowing three runs on six hits and two strikeouts.
Luke Graft had three hits in the game to lead the Knights, two of which were doubles.
Drew Graft, Luke McBride, and Bailey also had multi-hit games.
Norwell will play next at home against DeKalb starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9.
