Third grade students from Lancaster Central Elementary took a field trip to BroxonBerry farms Tuesday. Owners and operators Justin Miller and Amber Broxon gave a tour, demonstrated seeding and harvesting plots, and allowed students to pet some of the farm’s chickens. All the while, students were able to ask questions about growing food. The field trip was made possible through a USDA Farm to School implementation grant, which was awarded to Wells County last year. The grant support opportunities throughout the county to educate youth about local agriculture and nutrition. In wrapping up the field trip, Miller told students, “The more people that grow up to do what we do, the better world we’re going to have.” (Photos by Holly Gaskill)
