Norwell girls beat South Adams in tennis

The Norwell girls’ tennis team was defeated on the road to South Adams 5-0 Thursday afternoon.

Results for the varsity match:

• Addy Heyerley defeated Samantha Weigel 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 singles.

• McKennz McNabb defeated Ava Kinsey 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 singles.

• Delaney Hoover defeated Grace Brakley 6-0, 6-2 in No. 3 singles.

• Annabelle Johnson and Macy Felger defeated Chloe Summersett and Lexie McKibbens 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles.

• Jordyn Xayyachack and Idoia Ochoa defeated Maggie Nussbaum and Malina Mauhorr 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 doubles.

The junior varsity won all eight matches against South Adams.

Raiders earn first win on the golf season

Southern Wells opened up its season with a home victory over Mississinewa at Dogwood Glen Golf Course Thursday afternoon.

The Raiders shot a 206 on the day, while the Indians shot a 225.

Gabe McElhaney was the medalist shooting a 45 on the day, followed by Quinton Mullins (49), Bailey Couch (55), and Chaldner Oswalt (57).

Southern Wells will be at home to face Bluffton and Jay County starting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18.

Raiders rout Legends in softball

The Southern Wells softball team defeated North Side 25-8 Thursday afternoon on the road.

Kyah Thomas got the win on the mound tossing two innings and striking out six.

Emma PArks went three-for-five in the game with a grand slam and a triple, totaling six RBIs.

Collena Reeves, Thomas, and Brittany Costello had three-hit games. Reeves had a double and two RBIs, Thomas with three RBIs, and Costello had two extra-base hits and three RBIs.

Southern Wells will be at Northfield at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 18.

Knights loss first baseball game of season to Patriots

The Norwell baseball team lost its first game in the regular season after a perfect 6-0 start, falling to Heritage 1-0 Thursday afternoon at home.

Luke Graft mustered the only hit for the Knights in the game.

Curtis Ellis got the loss despite going five innings, allowing six hits on one earned run and six strikeouts.

Graham Gaier also threw, going two innings strong with one hit and zero runs, striking out two.

Norwell will be at Crawfordsville at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 15, and again at Crawfordsville to face Griffith at 2:30 p.m.

Knights defeat Concordia in JV baseball

The Norwell junior varsity baseball team went on the road to beat Concordia 12-1 in a five-inning mercy rule game Thursday night.

Ryne Thornton led the way with three hits for the Knights, adding a double and an RBI in the game.

Kline Nuenschwander, Will Case, and Gary Riley all tallied multi-hit games. Case had a double and two RBIs, while Nuenschwander had two RBIs of his own.

Max Babcock got the win on the mound tossing a complete game with only one unearned run allowed on one hit and six strikeouts.

Norwell will be at East Noble at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 14.

Norwell falls in softball to Yorktown

Norwell fell to Yorktown 11-4 on the road Thursday night.

On the offensive side, Jordan Markley and Madyson Sonnigsen had two-hit games and doubles. Delaney Connett added a double in the leadoff slot.

On the mound, Kayla Watkins threw 3 2/3 innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits, and struck out three.

Norwell will be at Jay County at 5 p.m. Friday, April 14.

Knights fall to Eagles in boys’ golf

The Norwell boys’ golf team dropped its first match of the season to Columbia City Thursday afternoon.

The Eagles scored a 161 on the day, while the Knights (1-1) scored a 171.

The top scorer for Norwell was Ashton Federspiel, who shot a 40 on the day. Following him on the scorecard was Derek Smith with a 43, and a three-way tie for third rounded out the scoring at 44 between Ethan Ottinger, Chase Holvey, and Cooper Sloan.

The Knights junior varsity squad defeated the Eagles 177-188.

Josh Adam for the Knights had a hole-in-one in the match.

Leading the way for the Knights were Kaedyn Quintanilla and Grant Mishler with a 43, followed by Luke Herrell (45), Bodie Zimmer (46), Josh Adam and Cavin Smithley (47), Owen Wallis (51), and Logan Freiburger (58).

Norwell will host Leo at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18.

Tigers swept by Patriots in girls tennis

The Bluffton girls’ tennis team was swept 5-0 at home against Jay County Thursday afternoon.

Tigers lose to Jets in JV baseball

The Bluffton junior varsity baseball team lost at home to Adams Central 19-1 Thursday night.

Trevor Smith got the lone RBI on the day on a base hit. Mason Fox, Cameron Williams, Colton Arnold, and Pete Ifer all tallied hits in the game.

Bluffton will be at Jay County starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 18.
