The City-Wide Garage Sale weekend is fast approaching. This event is on May 4, 5, and 6, typically from 8 a.m.–4 p.m. The list of participants will be advertised in the newspaper and on the City’s Website at www.blufftonindiana.net. If you would like to register your sale, drop off an ad of 20 words or less to the mayor’s office in City Hall no later than April 28 to be included on the printed list or fill it out online at https://blufftonindiana.net/city-wide-garage-sale. If you plan to shop that weekend, you can pick up the paper sales listing at City Hall. Remember, sale signs are not permitted in the parks, and hanging signs on utility poles is illegal and subject to fines.
Saturday, May 6, is also summer swim lesson registration at City Hall from 10:00–noon. Swim lessons are for children who have just finished grades K-12. Early swim lessons set a positive foundation for a lifetime of participation and enjoyment in and under the water. Class lessons are held Monday through Friday, June 5-16 at 10-10:50 a.m. or 11-11:50 a.m., or June 27-July 8 at 11–11:50 a.m. at the Wells Community Pool. Diving lessons are only offered from the June 26–July 7 session. The cost is $20, due at registration. Call the pool at 825-1550 for private lesson options beginning May 28.
Pee Wee Swim Registration for ages 4-pre-K Early swimming fosters a growing sense of self-esteem, confidence, and independence. As a child’s ability to move freely through the water increases, their sense of well-being increases. Registration will be held at City Hall from 10:00 a.m.–Noon on Saturday, May 6, for $6. Swim time is from 11-11:45 a.m., and a parent must get in the water with each child—no unattended children on the pool deck during lessons. Lessons will be M-W-F the week of June 19.
Very conveniently, after the garage sale week is the City-Wide Cleanup. Residential Unlimited BAGGED trash is scheduled for May 8,9, and 10. Having it out by 5:30 a.m. on your regular garbage day is essential because Republic Services will have additional trucks running the routes. This service is for additional bagged trash only. Then on May 13, from 8 a.m.–noon, city residents may use the dumpsters placed at the Wastewater Treatment Facility, 702 N. Main St., to dispose of extra trash and bulk items. We recommend that all yard waste be taken to the compost site on State Road 124 East. Items not accepted are hazardous waste materials, tires, electronics, printers, computers, televisions, recyclables, and large pieces of furniture. Carpet will be taken if they are cut into 4-foot pieces and bundled up.
OmniSource now has collection containers located at the Bluffton Recycling Center for E-Waste. There is a $20 charge for TVs and Computer Monitors. You can purchase these at the Wells County Auditor’s office in the Court House. If you have questions, please contact the Mayor’s Office at 824-1520 or brenda.jackson@blufftonindiana.gov. Unauthorized or improper disposal of items will result in a citation. A driver’s license may be required.
The Street Department will be at the compost site on 124 on May 13 from 8 a.m.–noon to load your truck or trailer with FREE mulch.
The Landmark Recovery group will offer a free event on Thursday, April 27, from 5-7 p.m. at Roush Park (925 W Silver). They are providing the first 200 people free food from D&D Fish & Tenderloin Food Truck, and offering behavioral health education, free FTY test strips, and Narcan kits with presentations on how and why to use them. The guest speaker for the evening will be Drew Mack. Questions about the event can be directed to Amanda Grawcock at 260 564-4011.
Our hardworking maintenance staff would like to thank all the departments who have pitched in to prepare us for the season. The street department not only removed old broken playground equipment, but they also made multiple trips to haul 44 tons of diamond dirt! The electric department hung up the baseball nets, installed hand dryers in our restrooms, and hooked up power to the new scoreboard at Jefferson Park. We also want to thank the water department for setting all our meters and inspecting our lines for leaks. We are so grateful for the help.
Have a great week!
