Matt Day of Ossian has donated a newly published family history book entitled “Cecil Victoria Shadle-Day-Barton-Day-Reinchield 1900-1988: Family & Life Story” to the Wells County Public Library’s Indiana room.

This beautifully illustrated family history book starts with Cecil’s genealogy and then transitions to life stories as shared and recorded by her daughter-in-law, Mary Day, in the 1980s.

The time span of the book covers major transitions in our nascent county and country back through when Phillip Shadle moved to 110 acres of “wild” land he had traded his Ohio farm for. In 1847, at the age of 65, he and his wife moved to Indiana to begin clearing and building on his new land.

Over the last 40 years with several attempts at assembling these stories, Cecil’s family history and stories have finally been woven into a compelling life picture. The genealogy portion of the book covers the Shadle family coming from both pioneer and Native American roots; as well as the Day family who moved to Wells County during the oil boom.

Day is inviting anyone who has information or ties to the Shadle and Day families in the county to contact him at 260-760-0123.
