Raiders walk off Broncos in softball

Southern Wells softball team picked up a victory at home over Daleville on Wednesday 6-5.

The Raiders walked it off in the final inning with a two-run single by Brittany Costello, with Raigen Tarr coming home for the winning run. Costello had three hits in the game, including a double, and added three RBIs.

Other offensive performers were Kenzie Paxson, with three hits, including a double, and Kyah Thomas, with two hits in the game. Emma Parks had a double on her two hits, and Morgan Jones and Hannah Duncan singled.

Collena Reeves scored the tying run.

Jones got the win and threw a complete game, striking out five.

Southern Wells will host Heritage at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27.

Knights sweep Jets in girls’ tennis

Norwell’s girls’ tennis team traveled to Adams Central and defeated the Jets in a 5-0 sweep, improving to 7-1 on the season Wednesday.

Results for varsity:

• Addy Heyerly defeated Melanie Bertsch 6-0, 6-0 in No.1 singles.

• McKenna McNabb defeated MaKayla Ringger 6-4, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.

• Delaney Hoover defeated Josie Shoaf 6-1, 6-0 in No. 3 singles.

• Annabelle Johnson and Macy Felger defeated Alexa Brotherton and Anna Leyse 6-3, 6-4 in No. 1 doubles.

• Jordyn Xayyachack and Macie Saalfrack defeated Alania Bertsch and Alayna McCullough 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles.

Norwell also won the junior varsity match 8-0 and improved to 8-0 on the season.

• Hope Mitchell and Addison Roembke defeated Alyssa Schearer and Grace Lotter 6-0.

• Sam Evans and Campbell Sloan defeated Lola Esenove and Tegan Peterson 6-1.

Knights mercy Braves in JV softball

Norwell’s junior varsity softball team won on the road to Bellmont with an 18-7 victory Wednesday.

Leah Werling led the offense with four hits in the game, including two doubles and driving in two runs. Makayla Young had three hits and three RBIs, including a double and a triple.

Madison Mashuda had two hits in the game with a double and two RBIs.

Abby Wagner was the winning pitcher, throwing five innings, allowing seven runs, and striking out three.

Norwell will host Heritage at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 28.

Norwell girls’ MS track wins tri meet, boys place second

Norwell’s middle school track teams hosted Riverview and Indan Springs for a tri-meet Wednesday.

The girls won the event, while the boys placed second behind Riverview.

Top performers were:

• Eden Nash in the 200m hurdles with a time of 31.61, breaking the school’s record and placing first in the event.

• Hayley Williamson was first in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet seven inches.

• Gage Reinhard first in the 1600m with a time of 5:02 and first in the 800m with a time of 2:18.

• Josh McBride first in the high jump with a jump of five feet five inches.

• Zach Roberts first in the pole vault with a jump of eight feet six inches.

Braves beat Knights in MS girls’ soccer

Norwell’s middle school girls’ soccer team fell to Bellmont on the road on Tuesday.

The Braves won 6-0 in the game. Head coach Dan Batdorf noted that Emma Garner had a strong game as the goalie.

Norwell will be back at home at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 27, against Huntington Crestview.
