Tigers slug 5 homers to sweep Norse in softball

The Bluffton softball team swept the doubleheader against Northfield at home Saturday.

The Tigers improved to 4-6-1 on the season.

In Game 1, the Tigers won 18-13.

The offense flexed its muscles, with four different Tigers hitting home runs in the game.

Tyrah Shaw had four hits, with a home run and four RBIs. Lily King had three hits and a bomb, Kayla Kiefer with one and four RBIs, and Konley Ault contributed a three-run blast.

Madison Smith had three hits in the game, and Tressa Renner had two hits and three RBIs.

Shaw was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game and striking out five.

In Game 2, Bluffton won 16-2.

Isabella Stout hit a home run, and a double and drove in two RBIs. Owen Laisure had three hits and two doubles, driving in five RBIs. Marly Drayer had three hits, two doubles, and three RBIs. King, Shaw, and Averi Petty had two RBIs each.

King pitched a complete game as well and picked up the victory, and struck out four.

Bluffton will be at Union City at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 24.

Tigers baseball splits doubleheader with the Indians

Bluffton hosted Mississinewa and split a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Tigers, now 9-4 on the season, dropped the first game 8-6 but recovered with a 14-3 victoy in the second game.

In Game 1, Braxton Betancourt led the twam with three hits and drove in a run, while also hitting a double. Andrew Onuegbu drove in two runs with a double.

In Game 2, Drew Pressler and Nick Pastore led the team with two hits. Austin Lewis drove in three on a double while walking twice. Brody Lewis drove in two RBIs as well with a double.

Pressler got the win with two innings, allowing three runs. Eli Garrett threw two 2/3 innings in releif and allowed no hits and no runs, striking out five.

Bluffton will host Southern Wells in conference game No. 2 at 5 p.m.Tuesday, April 25.

Tigers place third in girls tennis invite

Bluffton’s girls golf team placed third at the Madison-Grant Invitational on Saturday.

The Tigers played two games, losing the first to Maconaquah 5-0 and edging the host Argylls 3-2.

Results for the Maconaquah match:

• Molly Tenny defeated Emma Schwartz 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1 singles.

• Kiera Rosenow defeated Gretchen Crist 6-0, 6-3 

in No. 2 singles.

• Katei Yocum defeated Hazel Pfister 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 in a super tiebreaker in No. 3 singles.

• Kaydence Jones and Kailee Meadows defeated Alexis Grover and Eve Corkwell 6-4, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles.

• Josie Callane and Finley Dobbs defeated Avery Hunt and Kinzie Fiechter 6-3, 6-4 in No. 2 doubles.
