Those attending the Lunch and Learn of the season Thursday, hosted by the Friend of Ouabache State Park, were introduced to the premiere edition of “Discover Ouabache,” an online publication of park activities.
Kathy Schwartz, editor of the online publication and a past president of the Friends of Ouabache State Park. She’s also an organizer of the park’s “Festival of Lights” held in December.
An online brochure created for the 2022 Festival of Lights was the inspiration for the new publication, which will alert visitors to information about the park and to other places to visit near the park. Schwartz explained that the digital form of the magazine has a lower cost and is more ecologically friendly.
The online version of “Discover Ouabache” will be published four times a year to coincide with the changes of season. Schwartz has enlisted FOOSP members Jody Heaston, Barb Barbieri, Alan Daugherty, Quinn Curry, Kathy Curry, Pastor Neil Ainslie and Joni Cincotta to be on the editorial board.
First Bank of Berne has partnered with the FOOSP to fund the start-up expenses and Schwartz and Kathy Curry secured ads from Fields of Grace, A Perfect Blend and Oliver’s at the Brickhouse in Monroe and Twin Suns Creative.
The Creative Content Director/Designer was Heather Bremer of Twin Suns Creative. Writers include Jody Heaston, Corney Lehman, Rose Nevil, Pastor Neil Ainslie, Joni Cincotta, Katia Cook, Janella Stronczek and Alan Daugherty while photographers are Kraig Schwartz, Alan Daugherty and Janella Stronczek.
Articles in the spring issue include what wild flowers are now in bloom with photos, what birds are migrating through the area, hunting for mushrooms, up and close photos with plants and bugs, the volunteer bluebird brigade maintaining nesting boxes, photos of volunteers in action at the park, available activities at the park, schedule for the Lunch and Learn series, interview with the park’s office manager (Joni Cincotta), Wells County events as supplied by the Wells County Chamber of Commerce, selected items from the CCC’s Candlelight newsletter, and Peeks into the Past, which highlights photos compiled digitally by volunteers Diana and David Carpenter.
To view the magazine online go to: discoverouabache.wixsite.com/magazine or scan an QR code from posters located at the park’s office or gatehouse.
