Bluffton’s EJ Tackett won the 2023 U.S. bowling championship Sunday afternoon, becoming the ninth triple crown winner in Pro Bowling Association Tour history.
Tackett defeated Kyle Troup in the finals 221-208 to win the green jacket and a $100,000 cash prize.
“This is just absolutely incredible,” Tackett said to PBA reporter Nolan Hughes. “I have so many people here supporting me. What this tournament means is a whole mountain of things. The Triple Crown. The U.S. Open. Winning here at Woodland. Winning in the state of Indiana. Getting my flag down there in the Beer Thirty bar along with everyone else. Another major. The list just compiles what this tournament means.”
Tackett earned the No. 1 seed on Saturday out of five finalists competing and won the event after 48 games.
The event was held in his hometown state of Indiana at Indianapolis’ Royal Pin Woodland.
