Norwell’s Kennedy Fuelling broke another program record Friday night as the Lady Knights defeated the visiting New Haven Lady Bulldogs 90-22.

Fuelling notched her 62nd three-point basket of the season early in the second quarter, breaking a season record previously held by Kaylee Roller.

She added another one later on her way to finishing with 27 points on 10 of 14 shooting, including 5 of 8 beyond the arc.

The game itself had little other moments of significance.

After the Bulldogs (2-17) tied the game at three on a triple from Janiya Johnson, the Knights (17-3) scored the next 36 points, capped by Fuelling’s record-setter.

The Knights used a 13-0 run to extend their lead to 52-5.

Norwell made 23 of 38 shots in the first half and led 60-10 at the break.

They also finished with a walloping 42-10 edge on the boards.

“We’re trying to be a better rebounding team, and we’re trying to get a better points per possession,” coach Eric Thornton said. “At Bellmont, we 0.82 points per possession, and we’re trying to get to 1. Tonight was just a different game, but our kids shared the basketball, and I thought we continued to try and do the right things with a lead like that.”

New Haven’s only points of the third quarter came on a jump shot from Samantha Goodrich, who led the Bulldogs with nine points.

Makenzie Fuess added 24 points for the Knights. Vanessa Rosswurm had 10, Haley Green had nine, and Ryland Graft scored eight.

The Knights are approaching the 20-win mark again this year despite not having any seniors on the roster.

Thornton credits his team’s unselfishness for its success and being happy for the different types of success that each player can have.

“Our kids are really tough,” he said. “This is a tough team. I think they understand their roles on a team, and I think they appreciate those. Everybody values what each kid on this team can be. That’s what makes this team so fun to be around. It’s exciting to think about, as we come up on the tournament, what they could accomplish.”

Norwell will travel to Blackford Tuesday night.

The JV Knights played Adams Central and won 66-32. Ayla Nern scored 15 points. Larkin Smith and Ashley Waldman both had 13, and Mekynzi Beck added 10.
