Bernita J. Harvey, 90, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, at Adams Woodcrest Assisted Living in Decatur.

She was born Nov. 13, 1932, in Adams County, to Fred Thieme Jr. and Adela Bohnke Thieme. On Feb. 1, 1953, Bernita married Robert E. Harvey. Her husband preceded her in death on April 11, 2000.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur.

Bernita was a homemaker and worked at Central Soya and Central Soya Bag Service (now BUNGE) in the office. She was also employed at the German Fire Mutual Insurance Company.

Bernita was a devoted and faithful wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. 

Survivors include two sons, Chris (Marilyn) Harvey and Keith A. (Debbie) Harvey, both of Decatur; a daughter, Judy A. (Philip) Olson of Snohomish, Wash.; a brother, James Thieme of Decatur; a brother-in-law, Ray Graft of Hoagland; and seven grandchildren, Lauren (Melvin) Susanto, Hannah (Victor) Landeros, Joel Harvey, Kristen Harvey, Lucas Harvey, Kelli Olson, and Connor Olson.

Bernita was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; three sisters, Lois Graft, Dorothy Graft, and Evelyn Aumann; and a brother, Delmer Thieme. 

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur with Pastor James Voorman and Pastor Zach Oedewaldt officiating. Burial will follow in the Decatur Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. There will be additional calling one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Preferred memorials can be given to the Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur or the donor’s choice.
