Norwell girls second, boys’ fourth at XC conference meet
The Norwell girls’ and boys’ cross country teams competed at the Northeast 8 Conference meet Saturday morning at Huntington North High School.
The girls’ team finished second out of eight schools, while the boys finished fourth.
The times for the girls’ team were in 7th place Makenzee Khan at 20:38.2, 9th Ashley Waldman at 20:43.3, 11th Addison Meyer at 20:54.4, 12th Brooklyn Meyer at 20:54.5, 17th Haleigh Reinhard at 21:14.0, 29th Elizabeth Norris at 22:27.2, and 37th Alana Cady at 23:14.3.
For the boys, Zachary Waldman was the leader in fourth place at 16:52.3, followed by 16th Gavin Threewits at 18:04.4, 23rd Marin Melcher at 18:29.5, 25th Landon Diver at 18:36.3, 30th Lukas Mashuda at 18:45.4, 35th Bobby Kwandrans at 19:01.8, and Luke Johnson in 39th at 19:17.6.
Both teams will compete in the sectional at Bellmont High School starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct 8.
Bluffton falls to Jay County in volleyball
The Bluffton volleyball team battled Jay County Saturday morning and were swept 3-0.
The scores of the match were 25-18, 25-13, and 25-13.
The team will be on the court next at home against Norwell starting with the JV at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct 4, with the varsity to follow.
Dee Eskridge leaves game with injury after putting up 16 yards
Dee Eskridge appeared to be shaken up after a 10-yard catch against the Detroit Lions Sunday afternoon. Eskridge ran off to the sidelines after the play, and the injury is unknown at this time.
Earlier in the game, Eskridge also got a rushing attempt for six yards.
The former Bluffton Tiger and Western Michigan Bronco has three catches for 16 yards in his second season with the Seattle Seahawks.
Norwell alumni Sarah Mahnensmith earns best time at Ball State
The recent Norwell graduate Sarah Mahensmith just beat her best time for Ball State at the Lou Classic in Louisville, Ky. Saturday morning.
Her time of 17:47.9 was 22 seconds better than her previous best, according to the Ball State Sports website.
Mahensmith and the Cardinals will race next at the Falcon Invite at Bowling Green State University at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct 14.
