Bluffton girls’ golf scores second lowest nine-hole total in school history

The Bluffton girls’ golf team traveled to Arlington Park on Tuesday to face Blackhawk Christian in a dual-meet. The Tigers won with a score of 193-202, but the 193 score was the second highest score for the team in school history.

The medalist of the match was Lily King, with a score of 42. The rest of the team followed with Emma Schwartz (47), Kennedy Nash (51), Eve Corkwell (53), and Tressa Renner (56).

Bluffton will look to build momentum at Timber Ridge Golf Course against Norwell at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept 8.

Norwell girls’ soccer shuts out Wayne

Norwell’s girls’ soccer team took down Wayne 5-0 in a shutout victory Tuesday night on the road.

The score was 2-0 at the half, with both goals being scored by Grace Mann.

In the second, Mann scored another goal for a hat trick. And another to give herself and the Knights a 4-0 lead. Addy Archbold finished off the scoring with a goal to make the final score 5-0. In the net for the Knights in their shutout were Gracie Rinkenberger and Abby Wagner.

The next game will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 7, at home, starting with JV, who will face Fort Wayne Fusion. The varsity will follow and play New Haven.

Lady Knights golf defeats Columbia City in dual-meet

The Norwell girls’ golf team won in their match 191-203 Tuesday afternoon against Columbia City at Timber Ridge Golf Course. The medalist of the match was the Eagles Lindsey McCammon, who shot a 42.

The leader for Norwell was Anna Dodane, who scored a 46. Following her were Ellie Gatton and Hayden Double with a 48, Emilyn Heaston with a 49, and Emma Dodane with a 52.

The Knights will host Leo at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 7.

Tiger tennis sweeps Wabash

The Bluffton tennis team went to Wabash and swept the Apaches 5-0 on Tuesday.

In singles, Bluffton took all three matches, starting with Keegan Schwartz winning over Nicholas Ewing 6-4, 7-6. Anthony Hartman defeated Dom Baker 6-4, 7-6 (7-1). Blake Moser won over Cooper Long 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles, the Tigers won both matches. Preston Daughtery and Drew Pressler defeated Eli Mattern and Alex Dickins 6-1, 6-4. Logan Reifsteck and Max Worth beat Ashton Coffman and Derek Reed 6-1, 6-0.

The JV team also swept their match with a score of 3-0.

Nolan Lambert won over TJ Fritter 10-4, Kade Abbett defeated Nick Perkins 10-1, and the doubles team of Ben Maggard and Dane Schlagenhauf beat Dillion Pence and Colton Sellers. The Tigers will be back on the court at Carroll at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 7.

Norwell tennis defeats NE8 foe DeKalb in 3-2 thriller

The Norwell Knights and the DeKalb Barons took the courts Tuesday in a conference matchup in which the total score came down to the last point. The Knights won 3-2 to go 2-0 in conference play.

In singles, DeKalb’s lone victory was from Owen Holwerda, who beat Ethan Ottinger 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. In No. 2 singles, Norwell’s Grant Mishler had an even match with Wyatt Derrow that went to the last set after a comeback with scores of 6-7, 3-7, 7-5, 6-3. In No. 3 singles, Bodie Zimmer defeated Matt Beckman 6-0, 6-3.

In Doubles, both teams split the two games. At No. 1 doubles, DeKalb’s Elijah Ehmke and Kiefer Nagel defeated Winston Frauhiger 6-0, 6-1. In No. 2 doubles, Norwell’s Jaden Payne and Jake Hoover beat Grant Fetter and Grant Stuckey 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The JV team also played, tying the score of 4-4.

The singles winners for the Knights were Owen Cupp and Gavin Reynolds. Falling in No. 3 singles was Ignacio Albrecht.

There were four doubles matches. Eddie Archbold and Ayden Quintanilla won the lone match. The others teams were Ethan Wilson and Brayden Wallace, Ethan Williamson and James Simmerman, and Alex Baker and Christian Werling.

Norwell will continue conference play on the road at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept 8 at Bellmont.

Green Valley Golf League

The Tuesday Green Valley Golf League did a scramble Tuesday afternoon. The closest to pin was Rick Murphy, and the longest putt was Arlie Higginbotham.

The winning team was Tom Grzych, Tom Reifsteck, Rick Brodie, and Steve Folk.
