Wednesday, 2:12 p.m., Lowe’s Home Improvement, 2105 N. Main St. Report of an older man in the store attempting to buy $8,000 in Lowe’s gift cards. It appeared to be connected to the efforts by a scammer to defraud the man out of his money.
Thursday, 8:42 a.m., Roush Park, 925 W. Silver St. Park employee found a medication bottle under a picnic table. Officer colledted it for disposal.
Thursday, 10:39 a.m., railroad tracks at Cherry Street and Union Street. Report of one adult and five children walking on the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks. Officer checked the area but saw no one on the tracks.
Thursday, 12:18 p.m., Peyton’s Northern Distribution Center, 1111 S. Adams St. Caller reported a vehicle lost its trailer and wrapped the trailer around a Bluffton Utilities electric pole. Bluffton Utilities contacted
Ossian:
Tuesday. 6:07 p.m., Ossian woman came to the Ossian Police Department to report someone had rented a Ford Escape from Avis Rent A Car in Fort Wayne on May 7 using her identity and failed to return the vehicle May 11 when it was due back to the rental agency.
ACCIDENTS
City:
Tuesday, 7:18 p.m., Main Street west of Dustman Road. Clifford W. Jones, 16, Ossian, decided he was going to McDonald’s but was southbound in the inside driving lane. He drove a 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo across the outside driving lane and collided with a 2009 Honda Accord, driven by John R. Williams, 68, rural Warren. The impact caused the Monte Carlo to careen off the right side of the road, up and over the curb where it crashed into a large utility pole on the side of the highway. A passenger in Jones’ vehicle, Jaden Gephart, Bluffton, suffered pain from the crash and was taken by Wells County EMS to Bluffton Regional Medical Center for treatment. Damage exceeded $5,000. Bluffton Fire Rescue was also dispatched to the scene.
Sunday, June 5, 11:52 a.m., Walmart Supercenter parking lot, 2100 N. Main St. Amy E. Newnum, 50, Bluffton, drove a 2011 Buick Enclave sport utility vehicle into a parking space and struck a parked 2012 Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle registered to Logan Meadows, 21, Bluffton. Damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

Wednesday, 3:37 p.m., 900S east of 700E. Heath A. Alig, 32, rural Keystone, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck west on 900S when he got over too far while meeting an oncoming vehicle on a narrow bridge. The truck clipped the concrete bridge abutment, sustaining more than $5,000 damage.
Wednesday, 10:20 p.m., Ind. 1 near 300N. Maggie S. Miller, 19, rural Bluffton, hit a deer with a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. Damage to the car exceeded $2,500.
Ossian:
Tuesday, 12:52 p.m., 900N east of Jefferson Street. Bryon H. Moore, 19, rural Ossian, exited the parking lot of Ossian Smoked Meats. His 2015 Ford Escape struck an eastbound 2016 Buick Verano driven by Jessica Tucker, 39, rural Ossian causing more than $2,500 damage to the two vehicles.
FIRES
Thursday, 8:23 p.m., small grass fire next to the railroad crossing on Mill Street. Ossian Fire Department dispatched and quickly doused the fire.
Thursday, 9 p.m., Wells County 4-H Park. Bluffton Fire Department set up a landing zone for the Indiana University Medical Center Indianapolis LifeLine helicopter to fly a critical care patient from Bluffton Regional Medical Center to Indianapolis.
