Chandler Harnish will be commemorated as one of Northern Illinois’ greatest athletes with an induction into the university’s athletics hall of fame.

Northern Illinois made the announcement on Tuesday with a class of seven athletes being inducted.

Harnish – a Norwell High School graduate – is the school’s career passing yards leader, finishing his college football career with 8,944 yards. The quarterback also ranks in the top 10 in career rushing yards.

Harnish played with the Huskies from 2008-11 and helped guide them to their first conference title in nearly 30 years. They finished with back-to-back 11-win seasons in Harnish’s junior and senior campaigns.

Harnish performed his best as a senior, finishing the year with 4,595 yards of total offense (3,216 passing and 1,379 rushing). That effort earned him the Vern Smith Leadership Award as the Mid-American Conference’s most valuable player.

Harnish went on to be drafted in the seventh Round of the 2012 draft by the Indianapolis Colts. He also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals.
