BHS baseball tops ’Busco

The Bluffton Tigers were victorious in Monday’s baseball game at Churubusco, defeating the Eagles 8-5. 

Bluffton (9-6) came up to bat in the top of the seventh with the score tied 5-5 and came up with three runs to take the lead and eventually the game. 

The Tigers trailed 1-0 after two innings initially, but finally got on the board with four runs in the third inning and added one more in the fifth. 

The Eagles responded in that third inning with a run of their own and added two in the fourth to tie the game 4-4. They matched Bluffton’s run in the fifth to make it a 5-5 game.

Bluffton outhit Churubusco at the plate 12-7. Braxton Betancourt led Bluffton’s bats, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Eli Garrett went 3-for-4 with one run scored, and Andrew Onuegbu went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Betancourt was also the winning pitcher. He threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and no walks to go with six strikeouts. 

Brock Drayer pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out three and walking three. Curtis Ellis pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits while walking one and striking out one. Drew Pressler pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed no hits, runs, or walks and struck out two.

The Tigers return to the field on Tuesday at Adams Central.

NHS baseball beats Delta

Norwell’s baseball team won 10-4 over Delta at Taylor University on Monday. 

Norwell (9-6) got to work right away with two runs in the first. The Knights enjoyed their best inning in the fourth with four runs, then added one run in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh. 

Norwell only had five hits at the plate, but drew five walks , had one hit batsman, and took advantage of six Delta errors. 

Brody Bolyn had a hit, an RBI, and scored two runs for Norwell. Bo Morgan had a hit and scored two runs. Josiah Leidig had a hit, scored a run, and had three RBIs. 

On the mound, Cade Shelton started and pitched two hitless and scoreless innings while striking out five and walking none. 

Graham Gaier came in relief and got the win, allowing three hits in three innings while striking out three and walking none. Lane Lewis came in for the final two innings and allowed four runs on five hits while striking out three and walking two. 

Norwell’s next game will be on Tuesday at New Haven.

Norwell tennis defeats Carroll

Norwell’s girls’ tennis team won 4-1 on Monday in its match at Carroll. 

Norwell (10-1) won each matchup except for No. 1 singles, where Carroll’s Tori Skender defeated Aubreyan Heyerly 6-1, 6-2. 

McKenna McNabb defeated Kenna Shoup 6-3, 6-1 in No. 2 singles. Addy Heyerly defeated Katie Siegwarth 6-2, 6-3 in No. 3 singles. 

Annabelle Johnson and Mackinzie Toliver defeated Mya Lash and Tianna Trulock 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles. Jordyn Xayyachack and Sofia Fernandez defeated Olivia Krzyzanokski 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles. 

Norwell won the JV match 9-0. 

Hayden Double won No. 1 singles 8-2. Brooklynn Pine won No. 2 singles 8-0. Gracie Rinkenberger won No. 3 singles 8-0. Ella Krug won No. 4 singles 8-0. 

Macy Felger and Becky Sicchiero won No. 1 doubles 8-5. Ciera Hiester and Lisa Beckman won No. 2 doubles 8-1. Emma Roembke and Emma Batdorff won No. 3 doubles 6-0. Marlee Wenger and Isabel Isch won No. 4 doubles 6-0. Renee Fraze and Taylor Werling won No. 5 doubles 6-1. 

Norwell will take the court again on Tuesday at New Haven.

Bluffton tennis falls at Bellmont

Bluffton’s girls’ tennis team lost 4-1 at Bellmont on Monday.

Bluffton (3-5) scored its only point in No. 2 doubles, where Cadence Engle and Olivia Funk defeated Marisol Jackson and Isabelle Ort 6-4, 6-2. 

Olivia Selking defeated Monroe Heller 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. Emy Faurote defeated Emma Baumgartner 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles. Kaelyn Snyder defeated Gretchen Crist 6-1, 6-2 in No. 3 singles. 

Ella Kintz and Dana Schirack defeated Emily Mann and Madi Fenstermaker 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles. 

Bluffton lost the JV match 5-2. 

Katurah Bradford and Tiffany Lanning won No. 5 doubles 6-2, and GiGi Martinez and Elly Lee won No. 6 doubles 6-3. 

Bluffton will host Northfield on Tuesday for its next match.

Norwell softball gets win over NH

Norwell’s softball team won 18-2 over New Haven in five innings in Monday’s home game. 

The Lady Knights (7-5) took a 10-0 lead after two innings. They added one more in the third and seven in the fourth to win by the 10-run rule. 

Norwell had 15 hits at the plate, with Allyson Burtron, Brielle Nunley, and Jordan Markley each getting three. 

Burtron went 3-for-3 with a home run and two doubles, three runs scored, and five RBIs. Nunley went 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and two RBIs. Markley went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs, and three RBIs. 

Sami Lemler pitched a complete game for Norwell and got the win. She allowed two runs on three hits while striking out four and walking five. Both New Haven runs came in the third inning.

Norwell’s next game will be at East Noble on Wednesday.

Norwell JV baseball defeats Bluffton

Norwell’s JV baseball team defeated Bluffton 11-1. 

Noah Turk threw five innings on the mound for Norwell and did not allow a single hit or earned run. He also struck out four and walked three. 

Adam McBride and Collin Burns each drove in three runs for the Knights. Cooper Sloan and Cohen Bailey each came up with two hits.
