Norwell softball wins at East Noble
The Norwell Lady Knights won 8-5 in softball action at East Noble on Wednesday.
Norwell (8-5) trailed 5-2 after four innings, but took a 6-5 lead after a four-run fourth. Then the Knights added two insurance runs in the seventh to secure the victory.
Norwell had 10 hits at the plate, including three home runs.
Jordan Markley had a big night, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles, one RBI, and two runs scored.
Hannah Troyer went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs.
Sami Lemler went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and one run.
Brielle Nunley got the win on the mound, throwing 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief while allowing just three hits. She also struck out three and walked just one. Madyson Sonnigsen started and pitched the first 2 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits while striking out two and walking three.
Norwell will head to Carroll on Thursday for its next game.
Bluffton girls’ tennis shut out by Northfield
Bluffton’s girls’ tennis team was defeated 5-0 on its home court by Northfield on Wednesday.
Ashley Lyons defeated Monroe Heller 6-4, 6-1 in No. 1 singles. Meredith Haupert defeated Emma Baumgartner 6-4, 6-1 in No. 2 singles. Elli Baker defeated Gretchen Crist 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles.
Autumn Custer and Annie Schuler defeated Emily Mann and Madi Fenstermaker 6-1, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles. Camryn Kuhn and Hannah Wilson defeated Cadence Engle and Olivia Funk 6-3, 6-4 in No. 2 doubles.
Northfield also defeated Bluffton 6-0 in the JV match.
Bluffton (3-6) will have another home match on Thursday against Manchester.
Lady Raiders softball falls at Monroe Central
Southern Wells’ softball team lost 6-2 at Monroe Central on Wednesday.
The Lady Raiders (4-13) fell behind in the third inning when the Golden Bears put up three runs to lead 4-1.
Southern Wells added its final run in the fourth inning, and Monroe Central added two insurance runs in the sixth to secure the win.
The loss makes nine straight for the Raiders, who also lost to Mississinewa Valley 15-5 after a 4-3 loss to Tri-Village in a tournament at Union City on Saturday.
Southern Wells will look to snap that streak when it returns to action on Thursday at South Adams.
NHS JV softball comes back to beat East Noble
Norwell’s JV softball team defeated East Noble 4-3 in comeback fashion.
Trailing 3-1 after five innings, the Lady Knights added a run in the sixth to cut the deficit to just one run. In the seventh, Norwell scored the two runs it needed to get the victory.
The Lady Knights ended the game with seven hits. Leah Werling went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Madison Mashuda went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs. Kaydance Clark went 1-for-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI.
Kailey Eccles tossed a complete game on the mound to get the win. She allowed two earned runs on 10 hits while striking out six and walking two.
NHS JV baseball team gets victory over New Haven
Norwell’s JV baseball team defeated New Haven 11-2.
Korben Neuenschwander pitched all seven innings for Norwell on the mound to get the win. He allowed two runs on three hits while striking out four and walking none.
Cohen Bailey went 2-for-2 with three RBIs to help lead the Knights at the plate. Zander Borne had a perfect day as well, going 3-for-3 with a walk. Cooper Sloan added two RBIs.
